Chapter 32

"Hello" I answer the phone

"It's me Eli, I need your help Mary won't answer my calls or texts messages!" Eli says I can tell he's upset

"Calm down" i tell him

"Will you go talk to her?" He begs

I sigh but give in "yeah I'll go talk to her"

"Today?"

I look at Luke, I was looking forward to spending the day with him.

"Yeah okay" I tell him

"Your the best Jess thanks"

"I know i am"

We hang up.

"Who was that" Luke asks sitting up

His hair looks cute all messed up like that snap out of it Jess.

"It was Eli he needs me to go talk to Mary for him"

"Why?" He asks confused

"O well he's actually in to her and she's not answering the phone" I shrug

"O are you okay about him liking her" he asks me

"Yeah I think it's better if me and him just stay friends" I give him a small smile

He smiles back "well I'll be here when you get back"

I quickly get dressed and head over to Mary's house I've never been over there but Eli sent me the address I'm supposed to keep him update, I guess I'm his wing woman now.

I walk up her front porch stairs and ring the doorbell.

After a couple of seconds a woman who looks like a older version of Mary answers the door.

"Hello there" she says

"Hi is Mary here?" I ask her

"Yes come in"

I walk into the house.

"Here have a seat I'll go get here" she tells me and goes up stair

I go and sit on the couch an older lady is sitting on the chair across from me.

"Hello" she greats me

"Hi" I say back

"Are you one of Mary's friends?" she asks me

"Yes ma'am" I tell her

"I'm her grandmother" she smiles

"Nice to meet you"

"She such a sweet girl" she tells me

"Jess?" I turn around and see Mary

"Hey" I say nervously

"What are you doing here?" She won't look at me

"Can we talk for a minute" she nods and come sits on the couch "Do you want to talk in private" I whisper

"No uh this is fine" she says confused

"Have you talk to Eli?" I ask her

"Nope" she shakes her head

"Can I ask you a question. Um do you have feelings for Eli?"

I don't think she expecting me to say that " what are you talking about of course I don't" she laughs nervously

"You guys seem really close"

"Yeah but we are just friends that's all" she shrugs

"So you wouldn't ever want to be anything more?" Trying to get something out of her

"I've come to realize that we are only going to be just friends and besides he likes you and I'm happy for both of you" she smiles sadly

"Well we aren't together the date was nice but he doesn't like me like that but he does like you like that" I watch her reaction she seems shocked and confused

"No he doesn't" she shakes her head

"He does he's being trying to call you all morning to tell you"

"I-I don't" she looks lost for words

"Do you like him Mary?"

She looks at me for a second then nods "I'm sorry when I thought he liked you I was trying to be a supported friend but yes I've always liked him"

"Don't be sorry" I shake my head

She hugs me catching me by surprise "thank you"

I look over at her grandma smiling at us.

"You should go call Eli he's been texting and calling me none stop this morning" I chuckle lightly

"I'm going to call him right now" she smiles and runs upstairs

"She's happy isn't she" Mary's mother walks into the living room "Mary has said so many good things about you"

That makes me feel good "she's great" I tell her

"I'm glad you guys meet I really don't like that Kate girl" I try not to laugh "her and her grandma used to be really close best friends "

"Used too?" I say confused

"Yes her grandma used to live with us before she died" she says sadly

"What does she look like" I asks scared trying not to look at the old woman in the chair

Mary's mother picks up a photo of Mary's grandma, It looks exactly like the woman in the rocking chair.

"Um I have to go it was nice to meet you" I say quickly and run out the door
