In all the time Natasha had been at SHIELD, she had never once been pranked on April Fools Day. Sadly that meant that everyone tried to get her, some with pathetic ones in the hope they could catch her out and other more complicated.  March was ending and April was only in two days so people were already forming groups or going solo.

But Agent Romanoff was so busy running around SHIELD fixing computers and accidents, staying away from Medical and hacking into files she shouldn't know the passwords to, she hadn't even realised that April Fools day was coming up.

Natasha hurried down the hallway, slipping past everyone. She came back two minutes later carrying a stack of paperwork that she dropped off in Coulson's desk before she stole his keys and locked herself in.

Logging onto the computer she whizzed past several folders that were classified and clicked onto one labelled the Winter Soldier. She skimmed through it and then read Fury and Coulson's files and anyone else's that she hadn't already read. And then because she wasn't done with her hacking she deleted all evidence of her having been there and moved into the mission files that only Fury could see and anyone he allowed. Natasha read it and made a copy, then destroyed the evidence and unlocked the door, though she left through the vents.

The next day, March 31st, she walked into SHIELD yawning, missing the gleeful looks people threw her. Clint walked up to her with a cup of coffee. He handed it to her with a smirk. Natasha nodded her head in reply but didn't drink it; she sat down in a chair and stared out the window for ten minutes before chucking it in the bin and walking off, missing the sighs of the people around her.

Clint sighed sadly. Now she would work herself to oblivion and sleep only an hour before waking up. He followed after her but before he could catch up she stopped and thought. Natasha kept walking, going into Maria Hill's office. Hill looked up as Natasha entered and sighed when she saw the state of her.

"You're going to kill yourself one day," she said, leading Natasha out of the office and towards Medical. "You go in there and give them no grief. That's an order."

"Ord'r fo' you t' follow bu' no' fo' me t' l'st'n to," Natasha slurred tiredly, leaning against Hill's shoulder.

Hill grunted and wrapped an arm around Natasha's waist to hold her up, almost dragging her to Medical. Natasha slumped backwards on the bed they gave her and fell asleep. When she woke up a doctor was sitting beside her, waiting with a clipboard.

Natasha sat up and stared at him. "I feel fine, nothing hurts and if anything happens I'll let you know immediately."

The doctor laughed. "Looks like you know all my questions already. Well, I can't see the problem of letting you go. Just make sure to get lots of sleep."

Natasha was at the door when she remembered something. "What day is it?"

"Wednesday," the doctor replied with a wry grin. If Natasha couldn't remember what day it was, he pitied her.

She opened the door and ducked as a stream of slime blew in over her head. "It's April Fools, isn't it?"

The doctor nodded and left to wash away the slime. For the rest of the morning, Natasha was on edge, constantly alert. At lunch she started relaxing slightly not expecting to have Clint come up to her and say, "I trust you."

Or for Coulson to say, "you're not a monster, you're my friend."

Or have Fury say, "it wasn't a mistake to bring you here."

Literally everybody paid her compliments. By the time it was three o'clock, Natasha was locked inside Medical with the hope that nobody would get in. Of course, it didn't work and at four o'clock everybody went away to get changed.

When Natasha went out she did a double take. Every single SHIELD member was wearing a T-shirt that had her face on it and none were the same.

"April Fools, Natasha!" They yelled.

The look on her face was priceless and remembered by everyone. Especially when she saw a few T-shirts that had her and Loki not killing each other and holding hands.
