As it turns out, I did, in fact, make it through first period without having a brain aneurism. I even made it all the way though the next four periods too. It also helped that I didn't have any other classes with Evan except for first period, but that's beside the point.

Fifth period was usually my study hall period, but since I, amazingly, didn't have anything to study for today I just wandered around the halls aimlessly. Honestly, I didn't even know where I was, so after I finally looked up, imagine my surprise when I found myself standing just outside the classroom door to Evan's AP Calculus class.

Seriously, Emery?

I couldn't help but catch a glimpse of Evan through the small glass window in the door as I stood there. His eyebrows furrowed the way they always did whenever he was in deep thought, but it'd barely even taken two seconds, before you could see the epiphany happening in his brain. He quickly scribbled on his paper, before he casually sat back in his chair and raised his hand, while everyone else was furiously scribbling away on their paper.

That was Evan for you: the mathematical genius. We used to be in the same advanced math classes when we were younger, but then our sophomore year he ended up deciding to take two math classes. That's where he went ahead of me.

I still remember the times when we had math together. It was so incredibly amazing how brilliant he was in math. He could practically solve any complex problem in his head by only scribbling down a few numbers. Meanwhile the rest of us took at least one or two minutes to solve the problem. Yet, never once did he ever boast or make anyone feel like they weren't smart. In fact, he used to help me all the time on problems I could never figure out. He just had this way of explaining things that made it all click together in your brain. It always amazed me.

That was when we used to at least talk to each other. We'd always had at least math together every single year, but junior year everything changed. We didn't have any more classes together, so we drifted apart. I think the last time we actually had a real conversation together was the end of sophomore year. Ever since then I've never quite been able to pluck up the courage to talk to him again.

When I finally zoned back in to reality, I was greeted by the sight of the entire class moving into different groups, I'm assuming to work on a group project. Evan stayed in his general area, but what caught my attention the most, was watching Gabby move her desk towards Evan almost immediately, like working with him was just a routine ritual.

Gabby was the golden girl of the school. A mirror image of Evan, just a girl. She was captain of the volleyball team and dance team, Student Council President, Governor's Scholar Candidate, and leader of the Pep Club. Let's also not forget to mention that her grades were completely perfect, and she's gorgeous. Everyone loved her. She was one of the nicest people I'd ever met.

I watched as the two began talking and laughing, and she subtly brushed her arm against his, flipping her hair. But what surprised me was watching Evan smile at her, and laugh, like he was enjoying it. What hurt most of all though, was seeing the look in his eyes that let me know exactly how he felt about her.
