Day One

There was nothing like walking into a familiar area where everyone was friendly and always served you with a smile. MARIO'S was a local dinner right across the street from my apartment that I've been a frequent customer of since I moved to the Sunshine State known as California a little over a year ago.

My name is Y/N Y/L/N, and I moved to California for a few reasons last year - the main reason being to expand my line of wearing apparel. I'd started a nonprofit organization back in the last few months of my senior year that specialized in giving custom made clothes to the less fortunate. But things have a way of altering themselves - in a prosperous way in my case.

People started to take notice of my clothes and designs, one thing led to another, and surprise surprise - I was in California selling the clothes I made. My mom decided to take reign back in Philadelphia over my nonprofit: said it gave her purpose in life to look after something that bought so much good to the community.

Anyways, I'd been coming to MARIO'S since I first arrived here. I'd settled into my apartment and was completely famished after toting and lugging boxes and bags. There was a dimly lit sign hanging above a small building directly across the street from my apartment - you can guess the name. I decided to give the old diner a chance, and ordered what would become my usual for the next straight year - a strawberry smoothie, a platter of chicken tenders and fries, and a slice of pineapple cheesecake. The main waitress Lucy Vives would turn out to be my best friend. Every time I entered the diner I would hear: "Our regular is back! Get her the usual!" It made me feel like a local celebrity in the inside. The head cook Mario - the owner himself seemingly memorized my schedule and usually always had my favorite meals ready unless they were busy. We'd all become something of a little family inside that diner. And how could I forget Suzy? She was the wife of the owner and mother of my best friend Lucy. She was always handing out advice and free refills on coffee to her cherished customers.

This day however would prove to be the most unusual day I spent in the diner. Lucy unfortunately had to get her wisdom tooth pulled and wouldn't return for two weeks, so I had a new server. I would've been upset had a not liked the new waitress.

Her name tag said LAUREN J. and she was by far the most beautiful woman I'd ever laid my eyes on. She was a pale skinned beauty with eyes as green as kryptonite. Superman didn't stand a chance against those eyes. Her hair was jet black, almost a ravenous color - which ironically seemed fit to her demeanor: mysterious yet casual.

"Hi, welcome to MARIO'S, can I take your order?" She greeted me. Her voice was so... rich and husky. She was definitely a woman of refined details. I had to stare for a minute at the gorgeous woman in front of me. She wore a black "The 1975" crop top and a pair of stonewashed blue jean shorts. She had a great body, that's for sure.

"Hey, eyes up here," she tapped the side of my head with the pencil in her hand. "Can I take your order?" She asked again, this time with a little more attitude.

"I'm a usual here. I want what I always have."

"Oh Lauren honey," Suzy bought my platter of chicken tenders and fries, my smoothie, and my slice of pineapple cheesecake to my designated table. "This here is Y/N. Get used to seeing her face around here, because she comes in EVERYDAY for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Y/N, this is Lauren Jauregui, she's one of Lucy's friends from Miami."
