Chapter 22

Maya POV

After Lucas left for work Gabe and I went to Mom and Dad's. When we got there Dad wasn't there but Mom and Auggie were. Auggie was playing his x-box and Mom was in the shower. Gabe of course was instantly glued to his Uncles hip. While they played on the X-box I went into Riley's old room and sat in the Bay Window. I just wanted to have some time alone to think. Gabe was doing fine but me on the other was not. While it has only been a week into all this work stuff with Lucas it's really starting to get to me. I just got him back and now I feel like I'm losing him again. I realize that I'm probably being ridiculous but I can't help but think of the fact that this is his job and that whether I like it or not this is how my life with him will be. I was so lost in thought as I looked out the window that I didn't even hear mom come in. 

"You okay, honey?" she said as she sat down beside me.

I turned to look at her smiled as the tears formed in my eyes. "I'm alright." I said as my voice cracked a little as I tried to keep it together. 

"What's wrong?" she asked as she wiped a tear off my face. 

"Lucas and his job." I sighed. "Things were so easy at first but then he got a assigned a new case. Gabe and I have barely seen him this past week." 

"Honey, if you and Lucas love each other you can make it work. There are times where I have gotten so busy with client cases that I barely had time with you kids. Especially when your sister and brother were younger. But your dad and I we made it work." she said as she wrapped her arm around me.

"I know but I just worry about how this effects Gabe. We had plans to take him to Coney Island today but then Lucas got called into work. Gabe gets so excited then something happens and hes let down." I replied. 

"But 10 minutes later he's fine." She said with a smile. "I don't think this is so much about Gabe as it is you. You miss him." 

I laughed. "Yeah I do miss him. I miss him a lot. I've waited so long to find him. I've had him back for the last month and I don't want to let him go. I've dreamed forever about raising Gabe with him." 

"I think you have yourself all worked up over nothing and you need to relax. Its only been a week. Things might start slowing down here soon." Mom said as she hugged me tightly. 

"But what if they don't? I won't be able to cope." I sniffled. 

"You cannot spend your time worrying about the what ifs, Maya." she replied. "You know on nights I was busy your dad would come to my office and see me without your brother and sister. Why don't you go see Lucas? I'll keep Gabe for you." 

"Gabe and I stop in every once in awhile to see him. " I replied. 

"I know you do, but you haven't gone alone without, Gabe. You would have a lot more time with Lucas if you went alone because then you wouldn't have to worry about not saying long due to Gabe being with you." Mom answered. "This is how your Dad and I made things work." l

I lifted my head from Mom's shoulder and looked at her "Did things get tough for you guys too?" I asked her. 

"Very tough. More so when Auggie was a lot younger. Dad had to care for both of them if I worked late. Imagine him trying to take care of a baby and a 7 year old by himself?" She said and I chuckled. 

"I guess that would be tough." I answered. 

"Grandma would come down and stay with us when cases got busy that way Dad had a little bit of help. Don't think for a second we didn't have our moments." Mom chuckled. "I'm serious go see Lucas." 

"Thanks Mom, I love you." I said and then hugged her. 

"Anytime, baby." she replied as I hugged her back. "Gabe will be fine with us. I think Riley plans to come over in a bit so he'll like that." 

"I'm not going to tell Gabe that I'm seeing Daddy. He will want to come with me. I'm just going to say I had to do some things and that I want him to stay here with you and Auggie." 

"That's fine. He'll have fun with Aug." Mom smiled. 

Mom and I made our way out to the living room. I told Gabe I had some things to do and of course he asked about the carnival. I told him we would do that later and to ask Aunt Riley when she comes over if she'd like to go with us. He seemed to be pleased with that and got right back to playing Xbox with Auggie. On the way to Lucas's work I stopped and got him a sandwich with a drink. When I got to his work was after noon. There wasn't as many people there since it's the weekend.  I was told that Lucas was in his office and to go ahead in. I walked over and leaned against the door way. He didn't see me because he was looking down at some papers that were in front of him. 

"Hey, handsome." I said causing him to look up at me. I smiled at him "I brought you some food if you're hungry." 

Lucas smiled back at me "Hey beautiful. You made perfect timing." he replied. "I was getting ready to go on break." 

I walked into his office closing the door behind me. "Good I thought we could eat together." I answered. 

"Where is Gabe?" he asked. 

"He's with Mom and Auggie." I said as I walked over to him. "I figured we could spend a little bit of time together. I miss you. " 

I made my way around his desk and stood beside him. I placed his food on the desk and wrapped my arms around him when he turned to face me. I leaned down and kissed him softly before pulling away and he smiled at me once again. 

"I like that idea and I miss you too." he replied. 

"I'm sorry for getting mad at you this morning. I just miss you. I just got you back and I want to be with you all the time. Gabe is doing better than I am." I chuckled. 

"Don't be sorry. I put a strong face on for you but I miss you too. A lot. I was pissed when they called me this morning." he replied. "In fact when I got here I basically told them I wanted tomorrow free so that I could be with my family." 

I got sick of standing so I straddled him as he sat in his chair. I wrapped my arms around his neck and smiled at him. "I can't wait." I said before kissing him once more. 

This time things got a little heavier than usual because with Lucas when ever we make out his lips usually began to make their way to my neck because he knows that's my weakness.

He pulled away and looked at me. "Is it bad I just want to lay you out on my desk and fuck you right now?" he said and I couldn't help but laugh. 

"Hmm I haven't done office sex before. But really as much as I want to do that I also know you don't have a lot of time and I'm staving. Plus I don't want anyone to walk in on us." I answered. 

"Yeah I know you're right. You don't understand the things you do to me." he replied. 

"The feeling is mutual trust me. Come on lets eat." I said as i got up off his lap.  

Lucas grabbed our food and together we sat down at the little table in his office. It was nice spending time with him. Mom was right when she said it does help. I just feel bad Gabe isn't with us but I realize that Lucas and I need this alone time just the two of us. I was happy for Gabe that he'd get to have the day with Daddy tomorrow. Lucas told me he was going to stay with me tonight and tomorrow so that he was there when Gabe woke up in the morning. This made me super happy. We really need a day like that just the three of us.  We also talked about meeting up for lunch everyday and sometimes having Gabe join us as well since he's out of school now. I figured this could actually work because Dad could bring him and then pick him up too since he meets Mom for lunch. I felt like things were starting to look up. Mom was right our love could make this work.
