"Look how big you have gotten!" My mother stated while hugging Lexi. I think she was squeezing all the oxygen out of my baby by how tight she was hugging her.

"I missed you too Nana"

My mom finally let her go and stood up to greet me. Giving my mother a simple hug and a kiss on the cheek I walked further in the house and went into the kitchen to get something to drink.

"I am so happy you guys came. I been up all night fixing y'all favorite snacks and food. Tonight we are having baked macaroni, sweet potatoes, fried chicken and greens. For dessert, apple pie."

She wasn't lying the entire kitchen was filled with nothing but food and sweets that Lexi and I love to eat. I don't know why mother made all this food knowing we wasn't going to eat it all.

"Wow ma you really went all out but why so much?" I sat down at the table and took a sip of my water.

"Girl I haven't seen y'all in about what? Three weeks? That's damn near almost a month I had to go crazy with the food."

"I'm thankful for it Nana" Of course Lexi was happy about it the girl could eat all day if I let her.

"I know you are baby. Go wash your hands I'm about to fix your plate." Lexi nodded her head and went to go do what she was told.

Since Lexi went upstairs to wash her hands this was my opportunity to talk to my mother. "So Ma what's really the special occasion? I mean I get that you are happy to see us but I got a feeling it's more to it."

My mother finish up Lexi plate and sat it on the table. She went back and fix another one assuming this one was mine.

"Mom did you not hear me?"

Before she could say anything Lexi came back and sat down in the seat next to me. This was my mother's save because she knew I wasn't going to go into her business while Lexi was sitting right here. She handed me my plate and went to fix her. I know she is up to something and I'll be damn if I don't find out what it is.

"Nana this food is amazing" Lexi complimented, this girl was eating as if I don't feed her.

"Lexi slow down the food is not going nowhere."

"Let the girl eat she's just being appreciative."

"No she's acting like I be starving her or something so Lexi slow down and eat the right way." I gave her a look to let her know I wasn't playing.

She took the napkin she had and wipe her mouth. Then she went back to eating like a normal person.

"Anyways" My mother began "I wanted you guys over because not only did I miss my babies a lot but also because I have some news to share."

See I knew it more to it.

I took a bite out of my chicken and look at my mother letting her know to continue.

"Are you getting a puppy Nana?" I laughed softly this little girl was going to find a way to get a dog.

"Oh no baby Nana doesn't like pets but it's something better than that." Lexi gave her look as to say nothing is better than getting a dog.

"Your father is moving back in tonight" My mother blurted out.

Did she just say? Naw she ain't crazy so I know I missed heard her.

"Excuse me?"

"My dad is moving in?" Lexi ask in a confusion manner. She never met her grandfather so she has no idea who my mother is talking about.
