Y/N hummed to herself as she slipped in Tony's little machinery room. She was a good mechanic and helped Tony often. Placing the stack of blueprints on the table, she grinned up at Tony.

"Good news," She started to say. "I'm able to get the copper infused with gold for the suit."

Tony glanced up from his machine he was tweaking. "That's great, you're the best." He thanked.

"I know." She said, smugly. Using her arm she propped herself on to the counter top, swinging her legs lazily over the smooth marble.

Some soft rock played through the loud speakers that Tony installed in the walls as Y/N looked over the blueprints and memorizing the patterns while Tony sneaked glances at her.

Her graphic f/c tee was loose over her chest while her shorts hung over her legs as they swung in a rhythm on the counter. Her hair was pulled up loosely, some strands falling over her face.

"Do you want a picture?" Y/N asked, raising a eyebrow.

Tony swallowed and laughed nervously. Then his eyes darted to the Captain America charm on her bracelet that dangled from the small chain.

"How are you and cap?" He asked, trying to kept the bitterness out of his voice.

Tony introduced Y/N to Steve, her being his mechanic and childhood friend. Then before Tony could blink, she came in squealing about how he asked her out. Tony remembered the feeling of his heart crushing and how he nearly slept with every girl in Manhattan to get rid of the feeling she gave him.

His thoughts and needs for her nearly consumed him as he tried to shove down his feelings for the h/c haired girl. But it was hard to avoid the butterflies that she sent him whenever she was close, and the crushing reality he also felt whenever she reminded him of her boyfriend.

A stupid smile made a way across her face. "He's amazing." She said, almost dreamily.

She hopped off the counter and walked towards Tony. Her body plopped down on the stool next to him, making her scent drift to his nose.

"Why do you like him?" Tony asked, looking at her.

Her gaze was unfocused as they cashed downwards as she smiled, softly. "Steve is kind and gentle, he knows what his boundaries and he is dedicated. Adorable is a bonus." She laughed a little, which Tony didn't respond to. "I love him."

Tony stared at the girl through her lashes. This amazing girl was his friend, and completely in love with his friend.

He then realized that he had no chance.

The depressing crushing reality made him mad, but sad. His heart felt too big, tearing through its seams. While his brain felt too empty and light with no thought but numbness.

"You really love him." Tony said, quietly.

"I do." She nodded, oblivious to Tony's hurting.

Tony forced out a smile. "Thanks nice."

She smiled and peeked up at him. "He is my dream."

"Dream." He echoed. His chest felt too small as his feelings came loose and crashed against his chest as he trend to restrain from his shaking body.

She was his dream. She was his only dream. But her dream wasn't him.

This was heartbreak at its finest, breaking and tearing all of Tony down, mercilessly. He felt raw and small as his chest ached.

Tony wanted to be happy for his friend but the crushing weight of his sadness overwhelmed him.

He watched as Steve picked her up from the tower. Their hugs and exchanged pecks made his heart hurt as it reminded him of he had what he wanted just beyond his reach.
