Peter Quill watched as Y/N smile and laugh as her boyfriend made a comment. Peter stared back at his mug full of booze and took another swing.

Frowning at his reflection in the booze, he regretted his mistake 2 years ago.

He and Y/N once dated. It seemed like a daydream ago. She was his childhood friend, being with him every step of the way and cheering him on. He eventually asked her out after a mistake they made when their drunk.

But back then, he didn't realize how much he will love her until he broke her heart by sleeping with another woman while he was drunk.

After a couple long months of healing, she came back with a smile saying how they should get over everything because she still wants to be his best friend. And he was more than happy to say yes.

But when he became close to her again, he missed her warm hugs and her gentle kisses they exchanged. He didn't realize he missed then when she wasn't in love with him anymore.

Everything between them was never the same.

And he blames himself for losing the best thing could've happened to him.

If he only he waited longer, or if only they didn't make that mistake that one night. Peter often wondered if they would be happy in another life if only he controlled his urges.

But now it was too late.

He watched from the sides, as a friend and forever a friend. He cheered her on and cheered her up whenever her heart broke. Being close to her to catch her when she falls again.

But Peter would never could get as close as he once was.

He would never be able to assure that there wasn't another bastard that would make her cry.

He could never do that again.

Peter felt foolish to let that little peace of heaven he was oblivious to when he was young, now looking back he wished he would've realized.

So when he was offered the chance to change everything again, to warp time.

The people watched as he faltered when they offered him that. They watch him crumble as the fog showed something he could never reach again.

Greed almost overtook him when he saw her eyes crinkle in happiness inside the fog. He reached out but he could never touch. His mind actually wanted to trade the world for his own little happiness.

His friends looked at him with pith and empathy as his lips parted and imagined what his happiness could've tasted like.

But looking back into the real world, he thought about everything and realized that his mistake was permanent.

But that didn't stop him from wondering the what ifs.
