Being a hero always seemed like a good idea. The idea to save people, protect and serve the city and the world. To lend a hand to the little guy, to stand up for something bigger than yourself. I always wanted to leave a mark on this world, something to be remembered by. As a kid, I just assumed being a hero would be defeating the bad guy and getting the reward afterwards.
I didn't think pulling that mask over my face meant losing.
Being a hero wasn't easy, it wasn't all fun and games. It meant getting beaten down to your lowest point and struggling to stand up again on two feet with blood smeared down your face and your heart thudding too loud in your ears to hear anything.
It meant sometimes you lost everything you loved.
To protect the world.
It meant standing up and fighting, even when you had nothing left.
That's what being a hero really meant.
Sacrifice.
