Budan kai..

I arrived the venue of the budan kai with Khalil, Yusuf and few other friends then my dogarai. Sameer refused to come with us, he insisted that he was a Khadi, and a Khadi isn't supposed to be seen in every occasion, he should be seen only in places like wedding Fatiha or burials.

"Remember to always give your wife undivided, quality attention" Yusuf said and we all laughed. Yusuf was the present Garkuwa, he was given the title some few years back, a man of about thirty years of age, married with four kids. When I asked him what the names of his sons were, he told me that he had named them after the four contemporary Jurists, Maliki, Hambali, Shafi'i and Hannafi.

"Ranka ya daďe your highness you know I'm talking from experience" he grinned

"Of course I know" I replied.

We stood for a while, me on the horse, discussing random things as the bride's entourage was still not in sight. I wonder why women never kept to a stipulated time, give them 30 minutes and they will end up spending 2 hours of your precious time, well I guess I would have to get used to these since I was now married.

A night before the daurin aure was the damburde (in Hausa, it's called rufi or in some instances kamu, not the modernised nowadays kamu oo 😂😂). It's an event wherein the grooms female relatives like sisters, aunties, cousins and brothers' wives if any, go to the will be bride's house at night, taking along with them gifts such as clothes and make ups. They also go with things like big mats which they spread and sit on, then a stool, comb and hair cream with which one of them plaits the brides hair and nalle henna used to design her hands and legs, perfumes, to spray on her when they are done and little chops for her and her friends and eat. The event is normally accompanied with music and dance and it goes on till almost dawn. It is strictly a women only event, except for the drummers. Girls always look forward and enjoy damburde more than any other event in a wedding. Why won't they enjoy it when they get to do yar gala gala (and dance kujerar tsakar gida 😂😂)

We stood a little distance away from the women, the bride was going to be unveiled first before me.

It was always hilarious when ever I hear people saying unveiling of bride and groom, I mean quite alright the bride is going to be unveiled, then how about the groom.

Talking about unveiling, it's normally done by the grooms younger sister. Subhanallah, I don't think Batuul will be willing to do that, and Qudsiyya doesn't fit the category either, she's older than me, or should we call Maryam... It won't be right either. I know this is strictly a woman's affair but I couldn't help but feel tensed, I didn't want anything to go wrong.

As all these thoughts were going through my mind, Khairi finally arrived the venue, she was clad in a golden alkyabba, I couldn't see her face because it was covered. Wait, I was wearing a golden alkyabba too, I smiled at that.
