Prologue

Her eyes reflected a deep green in the sunshine, like the color of forest canopy after a rainstorm. Each silent whisper moved her thin, pale lips as if they were dancing. The breeze lifted and tossed her hair, knotting the dark blonde strands together.

Watching her was like watching a painting in motion, a masterpiece come to life. I, the unseen audience, was mesmerized. My fingers reached out to her. When they met with the soft skin of her neck, a shudder ran through me. Our eyes met, and the unseen became seen.

She smiled.

Yet then I awoke and found the other side of my bed cold.
