"Mackenzie, babe, wait up!" I yell, going after Mackenzie.

"What?!" She says spinning around as I catch up to her.

"What's wrong?" I ask.

"Nothing."

"Why were you so hostile to Emma??" I ask.

"I wasn't hostile."

"Yes you were!"

"Fine, then sorry for being hostile to your precious girlfriend." She spits.

"What?! Emma's not my girlfriend?" I say appalled.

"Hey! Having fun?" Grace says, joining us. She sees our faces.

"I've missed something big haven't I..." she says.

"Johnny said I was his 'friend' infront of his secret girlfriend." Mackenzie says.

"Secret girlfriend?" Grace enquires, lifting her eyebrows.
"Who is it?"

"Emma." Mackenzie says.

Grace bursts out laughing.

Me and Mackenzie stare at her.

"What's so funny?!" Mackenzie says angrily.

"Emma? As in Emma Rose?" Grace asks, still laughing.

"I think so?" Mackenzie says. "I don't know her last name."

"Yeah, she thinks I'm secretly going out with Emma!" I say.

"Kenz, he's not going out with Emma." Grace says confidently.

"How do you know?" Mackenzie sniffs.

"I know because Emma already has a boyfriend." Grace says.

"She does?!" Me and Mackenzie say surprised.

"Yeah. She's with Noah." Grace says.

"Really?" Mackenzie says, her voice softer now.

"Yeah."

"I still don't get why you called me your 'friend'"

"You called her your friend?!" Grace shrieks.

"Maybe its just his way of breaking up with me." Mackenzie says.

"What?!" I say.

Mackenzie gives me one last hug and then disappears.

I run down the path looking for her, Grace running after me, constantly yelling my name.
Suddenly, I feel a tightness in my chest and immediately become short of breath. I start wheezing and coughing. I collapse on the ground and I pass out.

I slowly open my eyes to find that I am lying in a hospital bed. The tightness in my chest is gone and I am no longer short of breath. There is a nebuliser connected to a mask over my nose and mouth.

"Are you OK?" I hear my Mom ask.

I turn towards her and see that she is sitting beside the hospital bed.

"What happened?" I ask.

"You had an asthma attack." Mom says.

"Asthma? I don't have asthma." I say.

"You do now." Mom says.

Grace walks into the room.

"Grace here was very good. Quick thinking. Called an ambulance straight away." Mom says.

"I'll leave you two alone for a bit." Mom says, getting up to leave.

Once my Mom is gone, I turn to Grace.

"Where's Mackenzie?" I ask weakly.

"Oh, um, she...she left." Grace says.

"Left where?" I ask, even though I already know the answer.

"She went home." Grace says, refusing to meet my eye.

The door opens and a doctor followed by my Mom and Dad enter the room.

"How are you feeling?" The doctor asks me, checking to see whether my breathing is normal before removing the mask.

"Ok." I say.

Mackenzie left. I think to myself. She really left.

"Ok so we ran some tests and you have asthma." The doctor says.

He explains to me what asthma is, then gives me two inhalers.

"In the case of another attack, hold your head up, sit up straight and take deep long breaths and try to get as much air into your lungs as possible." The doctor says.

"Find your inhaler and take a few puffs. If you feel it's not working or getting worse, call an ambulance." The doctor continues.

I nod my head, though I'm not really paying any attention to him.

After more talking I am finally discharged from the hospital.

I walk into the house. I climb upstairs to my bedroom and I am met with Nadia and the twins sitting on my bed.

I get such a fright, I stumble backwards.

"Nadia! What are you doing here?" I ask. "I thought you went back to the States with Mackenzie."

"Nope. I didn't go. Only Mackenzie did. I decided to stay for a couple more days." Nadia says.

"And what are you two doing in room?" I ask, pointing at Riley and Lacey.

"Since you and Maddie abandoned us, Nadia offered to take care of us till you came back." Lacey says.

"Abandoned you?!" I say. "I did not abandon you."

"Yeah you did." Riley says. "You went to the hospital for no reason."

"No reason?!" I say. "I could barely breathe!"

"Ya sureeee." Lacey says.

"Can you guys please just leave?" I beg.

Lacey and Riley stare at me. Normally they would've stayed there, refusing to leave, putting up lame arguments but today was different. They didn't say a word. They just got up and left. Riley gave me a hug on her way out.

"So that's the trick." I say smiling. "Just ask them nicely."

"No, I don't think its a trick. I think this is just a once off." Nadia says.

"Probably." I say, and I jump face first onto my bed.

"I wish Mackenzie was still here." I say sadly.

"Come on!" Nadia says. "Get a grip. You got me don't you."

"You don't count!" I say.

"I am deeply offended by that. I probably should have leaped on that plane when I had the chance..." Nadia mumbles.
