CHAPTER SIX - GOODBYE

"Is it true?" Hera exclaimed as she barged into Jon's chamber, startling him. His direwolf, Ghost, laid on his bed, but when Hera spoke, it lifted its head to look at her. Jon looked at her with furrowed eyebrows as he wrapped a thin sword in a leather cloth.

"What?" he asked confusedly.

Hera stood by the door, her arms crossed over her chest as she stared him down. "You're leaving" she answered. Jon sighed as he slowly placed the sword on a table. He looked at the floor for a couple of seconds, not daring to meet her gaze. When she didn't say anything else, he looked up at her. He was shocked to see how sad she looked.

"Who told you?" he softly asked. Hera let out a false laugh as she lifted her head to look at the roof.

"So its true." Her voice was bitter, and she couldn't help but feel slightly betrayed.

"I was going to tell you" Jon exclaimed as he took a step closer to her.

Hera sighed and walked over to his bed and sat down at the end of it. She put her head in her hands, as she processed the information. Earlier that day, she had been told that both Arya and Sansa would be going to King's Landing with Lord Stark. She had been devastated to hear that, because she loved both girls dearly. A short time later, she had found out that Jon was leaving to go to Castle Black and join the night's watch. It was too much to process, and she couldn't believe that three of the people she loved the most were leaving.

She felt the bed move slightly as Jon sat down beside her. She didn't look at him when she heard him sigh, instead keeping her gaze on her feet.

"I have to leave, Hera" Jon said after a couple of minutes of silence. "I don't belong here. I never have." At his words, Hera's eyebrows furrowed together in confusion. She lifted her head and looked at him. He was already looking at her with an apologetic look on his face.

"What do you mean?" She asked in a soft voice. It was a stupid question, because Hera already had a feeling that she knew what the reason was. Jon's eyes got a sad look in them, but the look dissapeared as soon as it appeared. Hera was sure she would have missed it if she had blinked.

"I'm a bastard" he said, his voice bitter. "At The Wall, I won't be that anymore. My past won't matter there."

Hera could understand where he was coming from. She knew how it felt to always be defined by a single thing you had no control over. Jon was known as a bastard, and that word would haunt him for the rest of his life. Just as Hera was known as 'The last Nyvell', which would haunt her for the rest of her life as well.

"Okay" Hera finally said, causing Jon to look at her with raised eyebrows. "I understand why you're leaving, but it doesn't mean I'm happy about it."

Jon let out a small chuckle. "I didn't expect anything else."

Hera suddenly threw her arms around him, bringing him into a hug. His arms instantly went around her waist, and he rested his head on her shoulder. Hera closed her eyes as she sighed. "You can always come visit" he said.

Hera laughed softly. "I definitely will."

Hera stood outside in the courtyard, watching as the Stark, Lannister and Baratheon parties prepared to leave. Her arms were crossed over her chest as her emerald eyes scanned over her surroundings. She had a bad feeling in the pit of her stomach, and she couldn't shake the feeling that something was going to go wrong. It was probably just superstition. With everything going on with Bran, and then people leaving, she couldn't really help the negative thoughts that sneaked into her mind.

As she looked to the right, she spotted Jon walking towards his horse with a saddle in his arms. He wore a somber look on his face, but that wasn't really a surprise. Hera walked over to him with quick steps, until she walked beside him. Jon gave her a comforting smile when he looked at her.

"How are you feeling?" she asked him curiously. It must be hard for him to leave his childhood home to go somewhere completely new.

"I don't know how I'm supposed to feel" he answered with furrowed eyebrows. Hera pursed her lips as she looked around. She spotted Robb striding towards them, until he appeared on the other side of Jon.

"You've said goodbye to Bran?" Was the first thing he said as he fell into steps with them. When both Jon and Hera gave him a look, he lifted an eyebrow in question. "He's not going to die. I know it."

"You Starks are hard to kill" Jon remarked, causing Robb to smirk slightly.

They stopped by Jon's horse just as Robb opened his mouth again. "My mother?"

"She was very kind" Jon said as he placed the saddle onto the horse's back. Lies, Hera couldn't help but think.

"Good" Robb said with a small nod.

"Next time we see you, you'll be all in black" Robb voiced and glanced at Hera, who smiled at him.

Jon laughed at his remark. "It was always my colour."

"Farewell Snow" Robb said, his face suddenly turning somber. Jon gave him a small nod.

"And you, Stark."

Without warning, they both threw their arms around each other, hugging like they wouldn't see each other again. Well, they obviously would, but it might take a while.

Robb was the first to let go, and he glanced at both Jon and Hera before he walked away with quick strides. That left Hera and Jon alone. For some reason, Hera couldn't bring herself to say goodbye. She blinked furiously when she felt her eyes start stinging, like she was going to cry. She refused to cry. She had cried enough these past days to last her for years.

"I guess this is farewell" she said, trying her best to not let the tears fall. Jon didn't say anything, instead he brought her in for a hug. He comfortingly rubbed her back as she rested her chin on his shoulder.

"Farewell Hera."

"Farewell Jon."

As she watched him leave she couldn't help but wonder what it was going to be like in Winterfell now. With, Jon, Arya and Sansa gone, she only had Robb, Bran and Rickon. Bran was still not awake, and Rickon was too young to understand her. She only had Robb left.

Before Jon rode through the gates of Winterfell, he glanced back over his shoulder, meeting Hera's gaze. They smiled at each other in a final goodbye. And as he dissapeared further down the road, Hera turned away and walked after Robb.
