I wake up to a dark room, a stray beam of light penetrates through a hidden slit in my curtains, revealing a small amount of my room. I get up, not caring what the time is or who else may be awake. I throw on a hoody and some jeans and get out the house.
It's still dark outside but the streetlamps provide enough light, I make my way to the abandoned building like I always do, the only things I have is my notebook and pen.
Once there, I nestle myself against a small wall that borders the whole roof, looking out into the darkness of the night I notice a few people, probably drunk, alone, wandering the streets. Mindlessly, I open my notebook and write 'from the dirt a flower must grow' I can't fully remember where I heard the quote but I just couldn't stop thinking about it. I saw it when I was super sad one day and it gave me a new perspective.
As I close my book I hear a distant sound, it echoes slightly. I look around hopelessly, the dark is almost opaque and I can't help but feel uneasy. Was I just tiered? I think but then I hear another sound, closer, a cough.
"Hello"
From the shadows emerges a figure his hair is black and covers most of his face but he looks friendly.
"Hey" my voice is croaky from not talking.
"Sorry if I startled you" he says whilst sitting down next to me. "It's just I thought I was the only one who comes here"
"Well you're not" I say, scratching my neck awkwardly.
"I'm Gerard, by the way"
"Oh, I'm Rose" I put out my hand, I don't know why, I just feel like it. Gerard then shakes it and we look at each other for a while.
Our conversations were small and cringey at times as we'd just stop talking and lock eyes before getting embarrassed and turning away. But there was something about Gerard that I couldn't help but like and occasionally I would find myself thinking about him and that night.
Note- Just to say, the timing isn't very realistic but Gerard is a bit older than the main character. WOW you kept on reading, thanks! Did you pick up on the P!ATD reference New Perspective and the Gerard by the Way pun. I'm sorry. Hope you enjoyed ; next chapter I will get more to the point if that makes sense, so yeah... So long and Goodnight xx
