"Joshua." the sunbeam mumbled. It was about 11:50. An IV laced her delicate arm and her face was pale. She still had her beautiful hair, and her glasses resided on the bedside table. Josh slept shirtless on the hospital couch, and her in the bed. The lights of the city outside her window were so amazing.

"Josh?" Abigail repeated, trying to sit up by herself. This was not the wisest of ideas, seeing as the port in her chest was still sore from being inserted the day prior. She winced in pain and laid back down as Josh stirred.

"What's wrong love? Are you alright?" Josh asked, springing up and standing next to her bed. Abigail just stared and blushed at his bare chest and the freckles that were like an artists paint flecks.

"I'm okay. Josh? Can you help me up? I want to look out the window." She stated, grinning. Josh grinned back and slowly but surely lifted her frame out of the bed, being careful with the tugging IV pole.

Soon, the brunette and the blonde sat at the window, taking in the sights. They viewed a landscape more beautiful than anything they'd ever seen. Rain dripped down the window panes and pastel pink lights overcast an alleyway. They noticed a couple kissing underneath a neon purple sign.

Josh silently snapped a picture with his camera, and then quickly set it down. He needed to live in the moment.

Slowly the two's hands creeped over the cold surface of their chairs. The needle ridden cold hand, and the warm freckled one were so close to each other, they practically begged to intertwine. Abigail reveled in Joshua's squinty eyed smile and the way his glasses fogged up a bit with every small breath.

"Don't be afraid." Abigail assured. Josh nodded and the hands met. Fingers interlocked despite clear tubes. Despite sharp needles, the concept of infatuation and love still persisted.

They watched a digital clock on a bank sign turn to 12:00.

They took part in recognizing that time goes on without us.

Josh looked down at Abigail's arms and chest, dotted with medical equipment and tubes. Terrifying acceptance.

"You're going to be okay. Okay? You'll make it through this." Josh assured, tearing up. A minute later tears rolled down his cheeks. He clenched his teeth and looked up at the sky.

Abigail wasn't sure if he was trying to convince her or himself.

"You'll be okay." Joshua sobbed into Abigail's hair. Uncontrollable sobs echoed. Abigail hated hearing Josh cry.

He became angry. His jaw clenched and his fists clenched and unclenched. His face turned red and he looked, water eyed, to the sky.

"Damn you! Damn you! Why her? Why not me?" Josh screamed, still crying. Abigail sobbed along with him.

"We need to make sense of love in the fires of Hell." Abigail whispered, hugging onto Josh as if her life depended upon it.

Shaky breaths  were heard from Josh.

"I love you. Okay? I love you sunbeam. I do. You are stronger than anyone I know. You'll make it through." Josh assured, rubbing her back.

But Abigail wasn't so sure.
