"don't ever get comfortable with mental illness.
it is not your friend."
(ashley dun)Abigail knew that depression would be a probable side effect of the cancer. how could it not be? she was dying. it only had made sense to her to speed along the process. oh how wrong she was. the aftermath of her stunt was the survival. quite possibly the most painful part of the process.
her eyes went dead when she watched Joshua walk into room. he said nothing. just stood there. staring. Abigail started to say something but stopped, choosing to focus on a familiar IV line rather than Josh's eyes which were now filling with more and more tears by the second.
Josh stared blankly at her semicolon tattoo and then at the popcorn ceiling of the white room. Abigail was strapped to the bed, an initial taken to stop her from abusing the hospital medicines. Josh knew why she had done it. The cancer, now terminal, had screwed up her brain. Stole it's serotonin and robbed her of her happiness.
How dearly Josh longed for her smile.
"I love you." Josh whispered, his voice cracking as he broke the silence.
Abigail muttered a quiet repetition of his phrase, but still couldn't look him in the eyes.
It wasn't until his strong arms, full of warmth and life, wrapped around her cold body that she broke down.
Little did she know, she was running on borrowed time.
