The next day Abigail was feeling a bit better.
Enough to get up and walk around on her own.

"Joshua?" She called, and smiled when the boy woke from his sleep on the couch and jumped up.

"Yeah?" he asked, smiling.

"Good morning love. I'm gonna go get a coffee okay? You want anything?" Abigail smiled, grabbing her shoes.

"Just black coffee please. Want me to come with you?" Joshua asked, putting on his glasses. Abigail just smirked and shook her head.

"I'm just gonna talk a walk if thats okay." Abigail said, placing a beanie on her bald head. Joshua nodded and kissed her cheek. The two hugged before she went out the door.

"Joshua?"

"Yeah?"

"I love you, Polaroid boy."

"I love you more sunshine."

-

The girl walked down the busy street, crossing the road.

She smirked at her independence and took off her beanie, revealing her bald head.

It was only a few second until the girl met her match.

She had always thought she'd die peacefully. God, was she wrong. Recently, she'd thought she'd die sick and in pain. She was wrong about that too.

The semi came barreling down the road at an alarming speed. She turned to look at the noise and it was too late. She was doomed.

As the trucked rammed into her, Abigail blacked out.

Joshua was left wondering how it could've taken so long for her to get a coffee.

-

Later on, Joshua got the call. He had been worried, calling the police station to see if they'd seen his sunshine.

The call said she was at Union Hospital. The same place where her mother had died.

"Holy shit." He said, eyes welling up as he rushed out the door.

When he arrived, he practically sprinted up to her room. There she was, laying, passed out and covered in wires. She was roughed up, at least thats what the doctor said. But she should make a full recovery.

Miraculously, the girl woke up in an hour. In pain, but awake.

"Abigail!" Josh said, hugging her and crying. The two caught up, expressing their love and crying. Doctors filed in and out of the room that day, smiling and laughing with them.

"I'm gonna go get a drink. Want a water?" Josh asked, getting up.

"Yeah, thank you." Abigail smiled.

"Josh?"

"Yes love?"

"I love you."

"I love you too."

Little did they know that'd be the last time they'd see each other

-

Josh turned around after purchasing the waters to see a doctor, asking him to sit.

"What is it Dr. Greene? Abigail really is making a good recovery. She seems so bright and awake. It's a miracle honestly. I mean, that truck hit her head on." Joshua rambled, smiling and getting that squinty eyed smile Abigail always loved to see.

"Joshua, there was a complication. Abigail, Joshua, Abigail suffered a heart attack."

Time stopped.

"I'm sorry what?"

"She didn't make it son."

And suddenly, something left him. He ran into her room and saw her cold body on the bed and lost a part of himself.

Nobody ever saw that squint in his smile again.

-

The funeral was quiet. Just Josh, Jenna, Tyler, and a few of Abigails family members.

Everyone left afterwards but Josh stayed. Tyler and Jenna stood with him for a bit, watching him stare at her headstone. Reading the birth and death date over and over and over and-

"Josh?"

The blonde boy snapped out of his trance.

"Yeah?" He asked with dead eyes.

"Jenna and I, we're gonna go. Give you some time with her. We love you dude." Tyler explained, placing his hand on Josh's shoulder.

Josh said nothing as they walked away.

The man was the only one in the cemetery. The sun set pinkish orange. Abigail always said those were her favorite kinds of sunsets.
All you could see was Josh sitting in his suit in the pile of freshly placed dirt. Six feet below, laid the love of his life.

"I love you sunshine." Josh smiled, looking at the headstone then at the sky. He ran his callused fingers over the lettering in her name, over and over until it hurt.

He wiped a tear and pulled something out of his pocket.

Polaroids.

He placed the pictures, a few of Abigail and Josh, some of her with Tyler and Jenna, one with her and her mom.

There was one that stood out to him the most.

It was the picture of her in front of the winged mural, standing and smiling into the camera.

"I'll always be your Polaroid boy."

The End
