Eyes fluttering open, Abigail woke up.

"Abigail! Oh my god." Josh exclaimed, hugging her. Tyler and Jenna stood smiling next to the bed, watching Joshua's and Abigail's reunion.

"I'm so happy you're okay." Josh said, wiping some tears. Abigail just smiled and nodded, remembering to count his many freckles. Last time she remembered there were 20 strewn across his nose. She couldn't forget this time that there were 21.

Tyler and Jenna eventually left, leaving the two lovers alone.

"I missed you." Abigail sighed, hugging him.

"I missed you too." Josh whispered, being careful as to not be loud. It was late and the hospital was quiet.

Josh just stared at her bald head and green eyes, his gaze shifting down to the semicolon on her ankle.

"Hey love, you never told me what your tattoo means." Josh stated, sitting up. Abigail's eyes dimmed. You could see the surprise.

"You don't need to tell me if you don't want."

"No, no it's alright. A few years after my dad left us, I was 16. My mom and I had horrid mental health. She spiraled downwards. Couldn't even leave the bed for months. She almost drank herself to death. I was left pretty much on my own. I fell into a shitty depression. I was reckless. I went out to shady pubs and I drank and smoked. I stole things, for gods sake, I even tried to tattoo other people. Point is, I was lost. I cried every night, my mum did too. But we survived. We wanted to end it, but we didn't. Thats why we both have the semicolon now. I don't know, I guess it serves as sort of a reminder of her now."

Josh just nodded, understanding. All you could hear in the room was the rain on the window pane, and beeping from machines. Soon came Abigail's weeps.

And so even though things were disgustingly gloomy, still, the Polaroid  boy smiled and the beam of sun shone.
