I turned my head to grin at her, conscious that the whole packs attention was focussed on us. The Alpha finding his mate is a big deal in every pack. There was a rumour that Dad was planning a big bonfire on the beach to celebrate, but I kept forgetting to ask for a confirmation. I made a mental note, but paused when I noticed one of the Lunas glaring at Maddy.

I didn't know her well. Lisabella, I think her name was. She was pretty, as Lunas go, but she paled in comparison to Maddy. Maybe I'm biased, but I don't care. Lisa had tried to flirt with me a few years ago. You know the stuff, batting her eyelashes, agreeing with everything I said at school, giggling like a hyena pup. She annoyed me, to be honest. I had told her that I wanted to keep waiting for my mate and she took it to mean that I thought she needed to make herself prettier, because she came to school the next day with her eyelashes poking out five centimetres and her heir dyed bright pink. Not my definition of prettier, but there was dedication for you. I suppose I admired her for that, but that was about it.
