"It's beautiful, isn't it?"
I sighed happily and leaned my head on Alex's shoulder as we looked out over the moonlit lake. "It is."
We had left the bonfire behind us and wandered farther upstream. It really was a beautiful landscape with the rippling water shining with an opaque silvery sheen as the full moon broke over the horizon. The sand slithered beneath our bare feet and caught between my toes as I sank them in, enjoying the cool massaging feeling it gave.
Suddenly I realised that Alex's hand was buried in his pocket. It reminded me.
"What was it that Thomas gave you? When you shook hands, I mean."
He grinned at me. His wolf grin this time. "You don't miss much. Alright, I'll show you."
My eyes widened as Alex pulled his arm away from my waist and knelt on the silver sand before me. He reached into his pocket, pulled out the object and opened his hand. Nestled into his smooth palm, as bright as a diamond, was a necklace.
It held the shape of a crescent moon. Silver, I thought, with a beautiful line of small topazes curving around the inside of the moon.
"Madeline Jay Fox," Alex said. His amber eyes gazed into mine, so soft and round. They were full of love. Real love, the kind that you know will never break, will always withstand whatever is thrown at it. "I accept you as my Match and my soulmate. I swear to love you forever and ever, for all our lives." His eyes grew rounder. "Do you, Maddy, accept me as your Match?"
My brain was, for the most part, fuzzy. Only one clear thought came to my mind, so that was the thought that I spoke.
"Yes."
