Three Steps

"Did we just get married?" Maddy asked me. I wrinkled my nose.

"Only humans get married." I told her. "What we just did was seal the bond. Mostly."

"What do you mean?" Interest sparked in her eyes.

"There's still one last step to becoming mates. There's three steps. The first is two Matches finding each other and falling in love."

I bent down and kissed her cheek by way of confirming that we were past that step.

"Step two is called the Seal. That's because it seals the Matching part of the relationship. The Beta decides when it's the best time to perform the Seal."

Another kiss, this time on the lips.

"The Luna decides when step three takes place."

"Oh." She looked up at me. "Sex?"

I grinned at her awkwardness. "All the way, though it's referred to as 'mating' by werewolves. You can see why the Luna gets to decide on the time and place for step three."

"Yes," she agreed. "Yes, I can."
