abortion – A medical procedure to remove the embryo or fetus from the uterus. Performed when a woman decides to end her pregnancy.

abstinence – To abstain from sex – meaning to not have sex

AIDS – acquired immune deficiency syndrome: a medical condition caused by HIV that destroys the body’s immune system and leads to death

anal sex – Inserting something (penis, sex toy, finger…) in the anus for sexual pleasure

anus – Butt hole

asshole – Slang for anus

balls – Slang for testicles

birth control – A method, device, or drug (or a combination of any of these), used with the intention of preventing pregnancy

bisexual – A person who is physically and emotionally attracted to both men and women

blow job – Slang for oral sex on a guy: using the mouth on the penis for pleasure

bollocks – British slang for testicles

cervix – The narrow lower part of a woman’s uterus that has an opening that connects the uterus to the vagina

circumcision – The practice of removing the foreskin of the penis

clitoris (or “clit”) – The female sex organ that is located between the labia at the upper end of the vulva; stimulation of it can make a girl have an orgasm

cojones – Spanish slang for testicles

condom – A thin tubular baggy that is made of latex or polyurethane and that covers the penis to catch all ejaculate fluid (pre-cum and cum)

consent – A person’s voluntary agreement or permission to engage in sexual activity. Sexual activity without consent is sexual assault.

contraceptive – Something that prevents pregnancy (see “birth control”)

cum (come) – Slang for ejaculation and/or semen; also slang for orgasm (male or female)

cunnilingus – The clinical word for oral sex on a girl; using the mouth/tongue on a woman’s vagina for pleasure

cyber sex – Using the internet to exchange arousing or sexy messages with another person

dental dam – A thin piece of material that is silky and soft, to hold over the vagina or anus during oral sex to reduce the risk of sexually transmitted infections by stopping fluid exchange between partners

dick – Slang for penis

doggy style – Slang for a sexual position where one person is on their hands and knees and the other person penetrates them from behind eating out – Slang for oral sex on a girl

ejaculation – When your penis squirts semen (cums) during an orgasm

embryo – A fertilized human egg before it grows into a fetus (at about 8 to 12 weeks after the sperm fertilized the egg)

erectile dysfunction – Being unable to get or keep an erection. Sometimes also called impotence.

erection – When a penis becomes stiff with added blood flow; caused by physical or mental stimulation

fallopian tube – Inside a woman’s body, one of two narrow tubes through which an egg travels from an ovary to the uterus

fellatio – The clinical word for oral sex on a guy (blow job)

female condom – A polyurethane pouch worn by a woman during sex; it entirely lines the vagina and it helps prevent pregnancy and STIs including HIV
