Chapter 19

As soon as Zayden sat down at our huge lunch table, I knew something was wrong. He never sat there since he started dating Eleanor, and when Echo and I started dating, she insisted on sitting with us because she found us very amusing. So, there were no more chairs.

Something was definitely wrong if Zayden chose to sit with us because he had to grab a chair from a different table and force his way into the table.

"Wow, someone looks angry," Kingsley said. "Want to go punch a wall or something?"

"Actually, I would love to punch a wall, but I don't think Mr. Goth would like that," Zayden said.

       "What's wrong?" I asked.

"I'll tell you later," Zayden said.

"What, you don't want to talk in front of your wonderful family?" Gray asked. "That's offensive."

Zayden snorted. "You mean my family who doesn't know how to keep a secret? I'm looking at you, Kingsley."

"Actually, you were looking at Uncle Gray when you said that, not me," Kingsley said. If there was one thing about Kingsley that everyone knew, it was how he took everything literally. I didn't know if he was doing on purpose, or if he really didn't understand the sayings he took literally.

Either way, some people got very annoyed from it.

"You know what I meant," Zayden said, kind of in a harsh tone.

He really seemed like he wanted to talk to someone, and I wasn't going to wait until we were on our way home when no one else was around.

"Do you want to go talk somewhere?" I asked.

Zayden looked at me and nodded, so we got up from the table and headed out of the cafeteria and to a bench with nobody around. We both sat down and Zayden was quiet for a bit, his facial expression changing from angry to upset.

       "So....What's wrong?" I asked.

"I broke up with Eleanor," Zayden said.

"Really?" I asked. "I thought you liked her? A lot?"

"I do," Zayden said. "I mean, I did. I'm not sure how I feel about her right now after what she did."

"Well, surely it can't be too bad," I said. "She's probably the nicest person in the whole school."

"Yeah, that's what I thought," Zayden said. "I swear, she's actually a demon in disguise. She may seem nice, but she definitely isn't."

"Wow, really?" I asked. "So, what did she do?"

"A few things," Zayden said. "First off, she was the one making me not sit with everyone else. Sometimes, I kept telling her I actually wanted to sit with my family but she wouldn't let me because she would be all alone, yet those same days we would end up sitting with her friends and I would be left out from inside jokes. She also kept getting mad that I always had dance rehearsals and never had time to spend with her, even though she knew about my dancing way before we starting dating. And the final thing, the very thing that made me break up with her, was that she got mad I supposedly left her at Homecoming."

       "Supposedly?"

"Yeah. She was mad that I left her at Homecoming, even though my cousin, uncle, and twin brother was in a car crash. I reminded her that she was the one who said she was going to stay while I go to the hospital, and she told me it was because she thought I was going to stay. Not only that, but she said, and I quote, 'Your dad could have just called you to tell them how they were doing. You didn't have to go and see for yourself if they were okay'."

       "Wait, seriously?"

"Seriously. Like, three of my family members were in a car crash and I had no idea how they were doing. Not only that, but one of them was my twin brother. She got mad I wasn't staying at a stupid dance when your lives were in danger. So, I dumped her telling her that it wasn't me. It was definitely her."

"I still can't believe she said that."

"Yeah, neither can I. One reason I liked her was because of how nice she was. It still shocks me that she of all people is like that."

       "Are you okay, though?"

"Well, I am a bit upset, but it's for the best. Besides, it's best that I break up with her now than find out what she is truly like later on and I'll feel stuck in a relationship I don't want to be in. Can you do me a favour though and not tell anyone, especially Kingsley? He does not know how to keep a secret."

"Yeah, of course. Though people will find out sooner than later, and our family isn't full of idiots."

"Oh, I know. I just don't want them to know the real reason. I'll just lie and say something like it wasn't working on. Now I really am hungry so let's get back to the cafeteria."

We headed back to the cafeteria and as soon as we sat down, Kingsley asked, "So, why did you and Eleanor break up?"

       "What?" Zayden asked.

"Why did you and Eleanor break up?" Kingsley said. "And don't deny it. It's pretty obvious. You wouldn't be sitting here if you weren't broken up."

"Uh, maybe we're in an argument," Zayden said.

       "But you're not, so...."

"We just weren't working out," Zayden said. "She's not the one."

"So, I can go for her?" Kingsley asked, which made Zayden punch his shoulder. "I'm kidding. I would never go after any of my family member's ex. Besides, I'm kind of se--" Kingsley stopped and cleared his throat. "Wow, look at this cookie. Such a good cookie." He picked up the cookie on his tray and bit into it.

However, that didn't make everyone forget about what he was saying. "Are you seeing someone?" Gray asked. "And you didn't tell me, your favourite uncle?"

"Forget Gray, you didn't tell me?" I asked. "I mean, I understand you not wanting to tell anyone, but I'm your best friend. I tell you everything."

"I know, and I'll tell you later now that I've said too much," Kingsley said.

"You won't tell me?" Makenna asked. "I'm your sister."

"Yeah, who keeps pointing out that I'm adopted," Kingsley said. "The only person I'm telling is Rhys because he's a trustworthy cinnamon roll who is too pure, precious, and good for this world."

       "Uh....Thank you?" I said.

_______________

Ooh, Kingsley. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡° )

Idk why, but I couldn't ship Zayden and Eleanor so I broke them up lol oops. When I was first planning this, I was going with a somewhat different storyline and Zayden wasn't even going to end up with her then, so....Yeah, oops. cx

I NOW NEED COSTUME IDEAS. It's getting close to Halloween in this story, and thanks to the group chat, someone is going to throw a costume party so I now need costumes. It can be anything; couple costumes, group costumes, just regular costumes.
