Chapter 27; cancer

Johnny's POV:

"Maddies away on tour for a head and m-Melissa is in the hospital with cancer" my eyes widen and my heart freezes.

I look at Lauren surprised as she drops her head to her lap crying. "She was going to stay with us but I guess not anymore." She mumbles into her lap. Crap because of me she has no where to go!! Ugh I'm such an idiot.

"I-I don't know where she's going now" she says quietly. I sigh and rub my eyes that fill with water. They were red and blotchy and my throat became dry.

"She'll come back Lauren. And if she doesn't I'll go and fix everything" I rub her back hoping she comes back. She jolts her head up looking at me with her red watery eyes. "No. She's not coming back and there's nothing to fix. She's already broken" I look down.

She's right. There's no way that everything can just go back to normal.

I reach into my back pocket reaching for my phone. I unlock it and dial Maddies number. I let it ring and few times when she picks up

"hello? John what's up?" She says surprised

I swallow and take a deep breath and exhale "your mom has cancer a-"

Maddie gasps and the phone goes blank "what!? I'm on my way there!! How's Kenzie taking it?" She says worried as I can hear her rush to get everything"

"Uh... m-Maddie there's something I need to tell you" I say getting quieter." I close my eyes and feel water drip of my eyelashes landing on my cheek.

"It will have to wait. I'm on my way there" she hangs up and the phone. I sigh and throw my phone down at my side. I stick it in my pocket and walk back to my house.

"Come on Lauren. You need to rest" I grab her hand and we walk back home. She was bawling her eyes out and the best thing I can do is stay strong for her and comfort her.

Maddie arrived here and we are at the hospital vowing Melissa. We slowly walk through her room doors and she her laying there. She turns her head and gives us a smile

"We have some good news. It wasn't cancer it was some weird reaction to the fruit she ate today" the doctor smiles and my heart drops. Oh no. Kenzie..

Maddie smiles and walks closer to her moms bed as me and Lauren stand by the door waiting. Maddie slowly sits on the bed and takes a deep breath and exhales "mom there's something I need to tell you..." she blinks slowly and I can see the water soaked up in her eyelashes falling down her cheeks

Melissa sits up and grabs Maddies hand "what's wrong mads" Maddie folds her lips together trying not to cry. She looks up at her mom meeting her eyes

"M-Mackenzie s-she ran away" Maddie chokes up and me and Lauren start getting weak. Melissa fave drops and she looks st me and Lauren. "I'm sorry Melissa it was my fault. She was going to stay with us but we got into a fight and she ran somewhere" I choke up walking closer

"John it's fine honey, she'll come back. I promise" she smiles grabbing my hand. I look down trying not to cry.

I hope.
