"Hello honey." A familiar voice says. I almost burst into tears. It was my father. I have only told Sam this. My dad is in the military and he is in Afghanistan. It is about once a year he calls. He didn't call last year, but I know he was fighting for us. "I miss you so much!!" I say crying. Sam just stands there getting the message it is someone very distant. "I missed you too Beth Bear. So how are things?" He says with his joyful laugh. "Good." I say smiling and crying. "Listen, I love you." He says. "I love you too." I say crying. "Bye." He says, a little disappointed. "Bye." I say, wishing the conversation would've gone on longer. "Who was that?" Sam asks. "It was my dad. That was his yearly surprise call from Afghanistan." "Oh cool. I hope I get to meet him one day." He says and smiles that cute bubbly smile of his.
"Hey want to go to the park to throw a penny in the fountain?" Sam says. "Sure I haven't done that since I was little. Actually the last time I remember doing that was with my dad." I say and wipe the tears from my face. He smiles and takes out two pennies. We stand there, our backs to the fountain and throw the pennies over our right shoulder. I turn around and see my father. He holds flowers in one hand and the other an outstretched arm. I run into his arms crying. He picks me up and spins me around. I kiss him on the cheek. Sam smiles. "Thank you Sam for assembly this." Dad says. "You knew all along?" I say half laughing and smiling. "Yes." Sam says. I give him a hug and he kisses my forehead. Then I look around.
I see people taping this with their phones and cameras. I smile. "Are you staying?" I say hopeful. "Yes. I will be staying for 2 weeks. I will be staying down the street at a hotel." I start crying again and hug him. "I love you." I say still hugging him. "I love you too." He says kissing the top of my head. We take my dad in our car, going to the O2L house to show him. When we get there we get out. We head inside. I cant believe what I'm seeing before my eyes.
