A/N: trigger warning: physical violence (bullying) and homosexual slurs, swearing.
the book slammed onto my desk with a thud.
"i found your book." max said, an almost cold tone to his voice.
my breath caught in my throat.
"t-thanks," i whispered, and he just nodded.
i picked up the book close to my chest. he walked away, whistling, and went back to his desk. i took a deep breath and set it aside.
i wanted to savor the moment of reopening it for later.
about 15 minutes into daniel's (not david's) stupid astrology class, nurf sauntered over to me.
my heart dropped into my stomach.
he slammed a fist onto my desk.
i flinched.
"hey, nerd." he spat. i tried to lean my seat back away from him.
"y-yes, nurf?" i asked, trying to sound confident.
ha ha.
"meet me at the end of class next to the gym, got it?"
i couldn't breathe.
i stood up.
"no." i said coldly.
he grabbed a fistful of my shirt and pulled me closer. "what the fuck did you just say, faggot?"
by this time, a crowd had gathered. including max.
daniel just watched silently, his eyes on me.
"i-" i choked on my words. "i said no!" i gasped for air.
he threw me down onto the ground. pain shot into my head and the back of my body. i hoisted myself up onto my elbows
not again. not again. not again. please. i silently pleaded to myself.
just as nurf's fist raised to plummet down to my face, he stopped.
"hey, nurf. cut the shit, jackass." max said, pushing through the small crowd of students. i met eyes with him.
he smiled.
nurf lowered his fist.
"oh? and why should i do that? this fag bag over here deserves it." nurf's voice was raspy.
he was right.
"no he doesn't, you sick fuck. he's a human being, like you or me, so leave him the fuck alone, got it?" max growled.
nurf just nodded.
max got an applause.
i was snapped out of my daze when max held out his hand to me.
"need some help?"
