Miranda's pov

I wake up in my old room! Happiness floods me! It was just a dream! I reach in my drawer to call Ashley but my phone isn't there. "Please let it have been a dream." I whisper, putting my slippers on and timidly walking to the door, my hand shaking. I was about to open it when I heard, "What do we do with the prisoners, boss?" I freeze, my hope shattering. I wasn't dreaming. I'm not home. I'll probably never see my mother again. I hear Jason respond with, "Line them up out back." I freeze. Is he gonna kill them?! I quickly open the door, my hand shaking. They were a little ways down the hall but he heard the door open and saw me, his eyes widening. "Are you okay?" He asks, walking over. "A little shaken." I murmur, glancing back in the room. "I... Uh I wanted to make ya feel more at home." He says rubbing his neck. "I... I thought I was home... That this gang thing... W-Was just a dream." He sighs. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have gotten you mixed up in it." I don't know how to respond. He sighs worried. "Are you gonna be okay?" I fight back crying and nod. "Jason.... I... I'm scared." He hugs me. I can't hold the tears back anymore. "Shh shh." He whispers, running a hand through my hair. "I'll protect you." We walk down the hallway after I pulled myself together. "Hungry?" He asks. I nod slowly, keeping my hand in his and my eyes on the ground. "You're safe here, Miranda. Nobody will get to you." "They almost did yesterday!" "And I stopped them! I'll stop them every single time!" He says grabbing my hands. He wipes away the tears that were yet again falling. "I'm sorry.. I'm just... I'm scared... What if you don't make it in time next time?!" He brushes my hair back and smiled tiredly. "There won't be a next time." Somehow that doesn't reassure me at all.
