Hawkins, Indiana 1984. October.
I stand in the kitchen with Mom, Dad and baby Holly discussing what we're doing for Halloween when we get distracted by Mike running through the kitchen, Nancy calling out his name behind him.
"Mike! Get back here!"
"Hey" Dad calls out to Mike "No running in the house"
Mike runs past and grabs my arm and we run out the front door and jump on our bikes.
"What is going on?" Mom calls out to us
Nancy is still chasing us out the door and onto the road
"Mike! Samantha! Assholes!" I turn my head around and give her the middle finger with a massive grin on my face

We pull up to the arcade, the boys put their bikes in the bike holder while I just lay mine on the floor and head straight to the door because for the first time ever, I'm meeting friends in there and we're not in school hours.
"Sam, can you just wait for a second cause Joyce will want to know you're here, you know - for Will" Mike says to me
"Sure" I back off the door and head over to Joyce's car that's just pulling up
"Don't walk your bike home. I know"
"Hey Joyce" I say approaching the car door
"Hey Samantha"
"Hey Will"
"Hi Sam" Will was about to get out the car but his Mom stopped him
"Ok, but, sweetie -"
"Mom, I have to go"
"Have fun"
Will gets out the car and I walk in with him, turning around and giving Joyce a reassuring wave.

"But like he's nice but I'm on the fence about how I feel about him" Laura tells the group. Laura is in my forensic science class and we get along pretty well. I started hanging out with these girls after Will had been found, they were super nice, always made sure I had all the worksheets from the classes we shared, even asked me for some help here and there, we became closer and chatted more and more, then started talking about stuff that didn't relate to school work.
"Well maybe if you stop talking to Joshua and kept talking to Andrew, we wouldn't have this problem" another girl, Heather tells Laura. Not to be confused with Heather Stewart who spends her spare time obsessing over Tom Cruise from The Outsiders. Or Heather Holloway who thinks she's top shit because she has a life guard job over the summer.
An arrange of 'Trues' and nods came from the other three girls: Courtney, Megan and Rachel. Heather's the reasonable one and smart one in the group, she's in my AP English and Math. I'm closer to Heather than any of the other girls.
