For so long, Demi had resented the phrase "love isn't enough." It's what Trey had told her when he decided to officially break things off with her. It was what she kept repeating to herself every time she saw Cami and Trey together, every time she tried to convince herself that it was time for her to move on, every time she had to stop herself from marching over to Trey's house and declaring that they were each other's soulmates so there was no use in them being apart when they would always end up back together again. But, Trey was right. He was an asshole, but he was right. Love isn't enough. It wasn't going to be enough to salvage the mess that was their relationship, it wasn't going to be enough to keep her around this time, because this time she was smarter and in the short period that they had been apart, she felt as though she had grown a lot and she had realized that she did need to let Trey go. Maybe not forever, but long enough for her to really find herself without being completely devoted to someone else.

So, even though she had gone over there to get him to sign divorce papers yet ended up in bed with him, this was the last time. This beautiful connection they had where their souls intertwined along with their bodies had to come to an end because if it didn't, she wouldn't ever know how to be on her own. Being away from Trey was learning how to be on her own, no matter how painful it was.

Being in his bed was so familiar. Being in his room was so familiar. Everything about Trey was so familiar and it made her heart ache from being away from him for so long, but at the same time, Demi knew that they couldn't keep doing this. He couldn't use the annoying superpower he had over her where he could make her melt and fall into his arms with just one look. He couldn't utter those three magic words that always made her heart stop and just expect everything to be okay. He couldn't make love to her and make her want to give up her resolve and any hope that she had of moving on from this man just because he claimed to be in love with her. Maybe that was his problem. He had been with her for so long that he was no longer in love with her, but more in love with the idea of her.

Trey's head was resting on her bare chest and his arms were wrapped around her so tight, like he was afraid she would disappear if he didn't hold onto her. And she wanted to savor this moment. She used to love just sitting in their afterglow, thinking about all of the moments in her relationship that made her stomach fill with butterflies and her toes curl out of pure happiness. But they weren't in a relationship. And she had to go.

"Trey," Demi mumbled, moving her arm in an attempt to wiggle out of his embrace, but that only made him hold on tighter.

"Can you please just stay until the morning? Please? We don't have to have sex, we don't even have to talk. Can you please just stay?" Trey pleaded, causing Demi's heart to sink before she pulled the covers back over her body and began to rake her fingers through his scalp.
