"When you finally face your past,
that's when you can begin to start
living."

The lady at first was shocked but a second late she widened the door and smiled at the pair. She brewed up coffee, explaining that the the child was sleeping upstairs. Once the coffee was made they sat outside on the patio around a glass circular table, waiting to see who'd break the silence first.

"I had a feeling her parent would come one day, I just didn't think it was this soon." Emily said, her eyes looking sullen for a moment.

Scott blinked.

"Her?"

Emily frowned. "Yes. She's called Andrea."

"Andrea." Scott whispered quietly, his eyes falling to the ground. Cassie could sense the emotions he was most likely feeling and comfortingly placed a hand on top of his before turning back to Emily.

"How old is she?"

"3 years and a bit. She's turning four in a couple weeks." Emily smiled obviously in love with the child. "She's an absolute angel, kind and compassionate."

Scott remained silent but he was listening. His heart broke at the thought of not seeing his child talk or walk for the first time. Emily noticed the sullen look on Scott face and her eyes softened.

"Are you her father?" Scott hesitantly looked up before nodding his head. "And you must be her mother?"

Cassie blinked in shock before shaking her head and explaining to her. "No, I'm his girlfriend. Her mother was actually a close friend of mine."

"Was?" Emily suddenly looked upset and Cassie quickly fixed her mistake.

"We aren't friends anymore. In fact she doesn't know that we found Andrea. Scott didn't know about the child until I..." Cassie trailed off but from the look in her eyes, Emily knew what she was going to say and smiled motherly.

"I understand. I guess you want to take her as well?" Her tone became very wobbly as if she was holding back tears so Scott quickly jumped in before she started crying.

"No, that's not why we are here. We are still in High School, Ma'am. I just wanted to meet my little girl." Scott's voice quietened as he finished his sentence and Emily quickly wiped her tears away.

"Please call me Emily, Scott." She insisted. "Wha-"

"Mama."

Scott stiffened at the sound of the childish voice and so did Cassie, both of them surprised while Emily remained calm and smiled soothingly at the young girl as she stumbled towards her, rubbing her eyes tiredly, her brown locks messily tied up into a braids.

"You sleep well, sweetie?" Emily asked, peering down at the girl and she nodded in reply, nestling close into her hold before staring at Cassie then Scott in confusion.

Scott remained frozen, his mind gone blank as everything that once made sense suddenly didn't.

"Who this?" She asked.

"Andrea, this is Scott and Cassie." Emily answered and suddenly the young girl was wide awake, her oceanic blue eyes blinking brightly at the pair, stunning them with her beauty.

"Cathee and Scott."

Scott choked back a sob when she said her name and Cassie looked at him in concern but he shook away her comfort, intensely looking at his daughter as she smiled with no care in the world.
