Why me? Why with her?

Chapter 14

{ALEX'S POV}

I woke up in the morning, stiff from sleeping in the hospital chair. I looked to my left and saw my mom, propped on her arm, sleeping. I looked to my right expecting to see Krista, but the chair was empty.

"Where is she?" I thought in my head.

I stood up and stretched, it felt like my entire body popped. I looked around and found the restroom. After I got out of the restroom I went to one of the vending machines and got a bag of chips.

I was walking back to the waiting room, eating my chips, when I saw mom reading a magazine.

"Hey, mom."

"Hey, sweetie."

I plopped back down next to her.

"Where's Krista?"

"Oh, She's in Jess's room."

"Did she wake up?"

Mom was silent for a little bit, which worried me.

"Mom?"

"The doctor said Jess is in a self inflicted coma...they don't know when or if she'll wake up."

I stared at mom for a few seconds, wide eyed.

"What are we going to do?"

"I don't know. I guess all we can do is be there for Krista."

"What about dad?"

"I already took care of him."

"What do you mean?"

"I called the cops on him yesterday, and they took him away."

I sighed and slumped back in my chair.

{KRISTA'S POV}

I woke up, my neck and back stiff.

"Ugg, this is torture." I thought as I stretched.

I looked back down at Jess, I felt my heart drop.

"Please come back to me." I whispered as I kissed Jess's forehead.

*Time skip*

I was sitting beside Jess, playing with my fingers, trying to tell myself it would be ok.

"You hungry?"

I looked up at Alex, holding a sandwich. I looked back at Jess.

"I'm sure she wouldn't mind."

I wanted to start crying when Alex said that.

"Ya, I guess I could eat."

I reluctantly took the sandwich and ate it. Alex came over and sat beside me, she rubbed my back, trying to cheer me up.

"Well, I'll go back to mom now. See you later."

I nodded in response not wanting to look away from Jess. I guess I thought 'if I stare long enough, she'll wake up.'

*Time skip*

I went to the restroom and came back to Jess's room, about to go to sleep. Alex had come back every hour, mom had come by at lunch and dinner and a little in between, and doctors had been in and out all day.

I grabbed Jess's hand.

"Come back to me, ok."

I then fell asleep.
