"Grk"

I froze and stared straight at the door. Alex came walking past the hallway and stopped to look at me. I shot her a glance of confusion and desperation. I charged into Jess's room and saw her with one eye open and the other held shut, in pain.

"It...hurts...it really...hurts."

Jess then reached up to her chest about to grab where she got stabbed but I charged forward and stopped her, at the same moment Alex came into the room.

"You can't touch it, Jess. Just hold onto my hand."

Jess flopped her head back and gripped my hand, I turned to Alex.

"Go get the doctor."

Alex nodded and turned out of the room. She came back a few seconds later with the doctor, and our mom.

"Ok, Jess, I need you to stay still while I look at your stitches."

Jess nodded in acknowledgement. the doctor pulled of the patch, it was full of blood, but the stitching looked ok.

"Does it hurt?"

Jess nodded her head, trying not to yell from him touching it.

"Ok, i think you should stay here for one more night then you can go home."

The doctor then left.

I turned and hugged Jess on her good side, making sure not to be rough.

"I'm happy you're ok."

I felt her come up on the side of my head, in a partial hug.

"I'm happy...you're ok."

Mom and Alex left the room so we could be alone.

"How long have I been here?"

"This is the 3rd day."

Jess flopped her head back in disbelief.

"Wow, that long."

I grabbed Jess's hand and looked at it.

"I thought you would never wake up."

I felt her hand move, then I heard the bed moving. I looked up and Jess was sitting on the edge of the bed, looking at me. She moved her hand to my cheek.

"I would never leave you."

I smiled and grabbed the back of her hand.

"I know, and I shouldn't have thought that you wouldn't wake up."

She started smiling too.

"Want to go get something to eat?"

"Will you be ok?"

"Of course, it's my chest that's hurt, not my legs."

I chuckled a little.

"I guess you're right."

She got up and wobbled a little, so I let her lean on me. We went down to the vending machines and got a few candy bars.

We started heading towards the waiting room, on the way Jess ate most of the candy.

"Ok, piggy, leave some for Alex."

"Oh, come on, miss bossy, I'm hungry."

I grabbed one of the bars and put it in my pocket.

"You can have the rest."

Jess's face lit up like a light, then she scarfed down the rest of them.
