Ever since the news broke, the kids were lost. Brooke, the younger of the two, was pretty much silent the whole time since Kelly and Sylvie picked them up. Sam being the oldest tried his best to stay stronger for them. Mainly for Brooke's sake. Now, he was in charge of being the man of the family at only 11 years old.

Recently, Kelly moved out of his and Casey's apartment because he wanted Gabby and Casey to get their privacy. And him and Sylvie decided on finally getting a place together. Since they've been together for a year now. They found a small apartment just for the two of them which is also near the firehouse. But now, there's four of them. Probably not how many people they expected to be living in their home this soon.

Once they arrived, Kelly showed the kids to the smaller guest rooms they had and allowed them to choose which ones they wanted. He told them that the rooms weren't really decorated because not many people come over to stay the night in those rooms. After about half an hour, Sam spoke up. Him and Sylvie were sitting next to each other on the couch while Kelly was helping Brooke unpack.

"Aunt Sylvie?" He softly asked her.

     "What's up?" Sylvie quietly replied.

"What will happen to us if mom doesn't make it?" Sam was looking right at her eyes waiting for a reply. At the moment, Sylvie didn't know how to respond to that. With the extent of Amelia's injuries and her comatose state, there's no telling what could happen to her. With that being said, she doesn't want the kids to jump to the conclusion that their mom is going to die. Absolutely not. Amelia is a fighter and can do this.

Sylvie went to sit next to Sam on Kelly's couch while trying to still piece together exactly what she wanted to say.

"Well bud, to be honest, I don't know. That's a 'what if' statement to keep in the back of your mind for now." She tried smiling through that statement to help ease the pain a little more. But that didn't seem to work. She saw how Sam was trying to keep his feeling buried deep inside. From the way he stared at his hands and even paced the room from time to time. No 11 year old should be going through this.

"Hey, we both know how strong your mom is. Trust me, I grew up with her as my sister. So I know she can make it through this. And why couldn't she? She has you and Brooke to come back to when she's awake." She tried to lighten the mood a little more with her statement.

What happened next shocked Sylvie. Sam suddenly broke down in tears and rested his head in her lap. Not quite the response she was looking for. But, it allowed him to finally release his feelings that he kept deep down. Her motherly instincts kicked in and she started to brush her fingers through his hair and tried comforting him. While she did so, she looked up to see her favorite person standing in the doorway.

Brooke had dragged Kelly into her new room to help her unpack. He did not know that one girl could have so many Barbies. She basically had her own suitcase full of them. He was hoping that he could get her to say at least one word. But still nothing. He figured that it was going to take time and he didn't want to pressure her. Soon after, he went to the kitchen to grab a water because he felt as if he was dying from heatstroke. Suddenly he heard stifled crying coming from the living room.

He didn't run but he sure did walk fast, worried that it might been Brooke. Instead, he found Sam lying on Sylvie's lap and decided to just watch. Kelly looked at her lovingly from the kitchen doorway. He leaned himself against it and watched her. When she looked up, he actually felt a flutter in his chest. They just stared at each other for a few moments before they realized that Sam stopped crying and fell asleep in Sylvie's lap.

Kelly then picked him up and carried him to his room. Sylvie followed him into the room and carefully tucked him into the bed. She gently brushed the hair away from his forehead and placed a kiss on it.

"Goodnight Sam." Her and Kelly quietly exited the room trying to not make a sound.

When she peaked into Brooke's room, she saw the 5 year old curled up in her bed with her stuffed elephant already asleep. Sylvie knew it was a long day for everyone. And a stressful one on top of that. Sam's question kept burning through her mind though and it was stressing her out.

When her and Kelly went to bed, she quickly curled into his side. Afraid that if she let go, he would be gone.

"Kel?" She didn't move to look at him.

     "Yeah?"

"Sam asked me what would happen to them if Amelia doesn't make it. And I didn't know how to respond because, I don't know what will happen to me if she doesn't survive." As she said that last part she broke down.

"Shhh..." Kelly tried to soothe her and cradled her head to his chest. He whispered words lovingly to her, hoping it could calm her down.

After a moment she started to calm down a little more. They both just laid there trying not to think of anything. Sylvie traced different patterns on Kelly's bare chest while Kelly did the same with her back. Only he lifted her shirt up just a little to help give her reassurance that he was actually there.

"143 Kelly." Sylvie looked into his blue eyes this time as she meant what she said.

"143? Not sure I know that code." Kelly gave a soft chuckle.

Sylvie smiled a little bigger at his response to her code.

"It means 'I love you'. You know cause 'I' is one letter, 'love' is four, and 'you' is three." After her rephrasing of the coded words, Kelly smashed his lips onto hers.

"Well then, 143 Sylvie." He liked the new coding system they had going. It would make it a little easier to hide their relationship from the firehouse for now. Even though they had been dating for a year now, they decided against telling the firehouse. They didn't want to deal with the constant teasing as they were still trying to figure out their relationship. Both were very content with each other, but still had doubts as any couple would.

There were a few times in the past were the firehouse brought the idea of them dating up, but they simply denied the ideas. And plus, they don't know how Boden would react to this. They saw how he was with Dawson and Casey, they just wanted to give it time.

Sylvie thought about it more though. It would be okay to tell the firehouse because they have each other. If they get teased that's fine. Because there's no one else she would rather get teased with.

She felt Kelly's breathing slowing down as he was falling asleep. So she used this as her sleeping mechanism. She focused on his breathing and slowly drifted off to sleep.

In the arms of the man she loved.
