Another Practice

Practice the next day was quiet. 

No jokes or even small talk.

Until I said something.

"Comrade, you can't ignore what happened yesterday. You know that as well as I do."

He looked at me but didn't speak. 

"Dimitri..." My voice was full of emotion. 

"Alice... you know we can't. You already know what would've happened with Rose. I can't!" His voice raises. "I don't love you."

I step back, as if he had slapped me. "Love fades, huh? Well, I'll bet yours has, but not mine. I will never give up on you." The look in his eyes showed that he realized that he had hurt me. But I wasn't staying to watch.

I turn to go, when a hand stops me. "Alice. Wait..."

I yank back, as if he was burning me. "No." My voice was full of steely resolve. 

Walking away, I see Rose headed to the gym, and then I felt one tear slide down my cheek, which I hastily wiped away. Rose had saw though.
