Who We Are

This was inspired by MCSM, Of Monsters And Men, Sleeping At Last, Divergent, and the HTTYD books; with a big dose of my overactive imagination. Though mostly just the first two and the last one.

You can try to make sense of it but you're not gonna get very far

And yes, this is dark as all hell.

Who are we?

We've all changed

But we're still the same

We're still insane

We go our different ways

Under the same sky

Same illusion of safety

I don't feel like I've lost a single thing because

I still have the memories that we made by mistake

We are who we are

We are still the same

And though we now have

Experiences we can't undo

Scars covering our faces

A different look in our eyes

We change our looks and we change our places

We still are who we are and

Who we are is still us

I miss who we used to be

But I still love who we are

And I still love you and us and everything

Though I can see the changes like

Shattered glass covering the ground

In new patterns that can't be seen if you look

I can't help but love the world we built and

All it took to get here

Things can't go back to the way they were but that's okay

Maybe

Or maybe we are

Damaged

Broken by the falls of failed leaps of faith

I take those every day

Sometimes I fail

Sometimes I land on my feet

Sometimes I don't know where I'm jumping to

Sometimes I think I'm jumping away from you

All of you

Away from us

From who we are

And who we're not

And who we used to be

I fear that leaps of faith won't always take us

Where we need to be

I fear that I won't always know what's

Wrong and right

I fear that I have never known

I fear that that is part of life and not a part of me
