i hide

i wait

i am patient

a predator never accomplished anything by jumping too soon

running over uneven ground

rain soaks my hair and coat

but it doesn't dampen my resolve

i hide

the alleyways and cobblestones are my second home

i know where to go 

i know what i'm after

i know who will fall

the rain slides down my dagger

but it doesn't loosen my grip

i am a wraith

i am a predator

i am a killer

i hide

wet footsteps on wetter ground

gaps between the stones collecting water

the dark presses in

the nearest streetlight is too far

but i don't need light to see

us predators, we prefer the dark

call us evil

call us villains

call us creatures of the night

you can't change what we are

we can't change who we are

hiding in the shadows

i wait

i watch

people pass me by, wanting to escape the rain and dark and cold

they don't give a second thought to the things that might be in the shadows

the mark comes near

he doesn't know

i hide

until i don't need to anymore

he passes by

he doesn't hear my footsteps

a predator is never heard

one stab

he never screams

he doesn't get the chance

he falls

i wipe off the blood and step away

i'm a shadow

i was never there

someone else will deal with the remains

i've done my job

those who meet me say i'm heartless

they think i'm a monster

to kill

you must be remorseless

to kill

you must know your goals

i know mine

they do not

to kill

you must disappear

vanishing is easy in the rain and the dark

slipping away like the drops off rooftops

no one saw me

no one will see me

i am a predator

i hide
