one night,
i learned how to make music

my arm
a delicate stringed instrument
the blade, a bow
i held my breath
and began my performance
the first bar
sorrowful,
pain-filled
& slow
then came the second
the third
back and forth
the tempo increasing
with every stroke
in my head
my demons pranced around
to the infectious tune
until i reached
the 13th
an atrocious allegro
followed by
a killer crescendo.
