i planted you inside my heart
your roots grew rapidly
entangling yourself
in my veins
uncomfortable at first
but i soon got used to you
living
inside my heart.
attached.i trimmed you
to look
how I
wanted you to look
groomed you
to grow
the way i wanted you to grow
i wrapped myself
around your throat
clingy.
wrung your neck
and blamed you
when i pricked my finger
on your thorns
maybe
i was part of the reason
you died so quickly
inside unfruitful soil
still, i continued to water
a wilted flower
