"Dev I'm scared" Dev tensed the moment those words left Sonakshi's mouth as all the previous thoughts came rushing back to him. Was this it? Is this where she tells him she can't be with him. No, right? Their family is literally discussing their engagement inside. Putting his pessimist thoughts aside for the sake of Sonakshi, he reached out to wrap his arms around her to reassure her that he was there or to reassure himself that she was there as she kept her head on his shoulder.

"Of what?" Caressing her hand, a habit he had developed over the days when he noticed it calms her down.

"of how perfect everything is right now, it almost feels like it's too good to be true, you, us everything, that I'm afraid that suddenly I'll wakeup in a bad dream and you'll not be there by my side and..."

"And?" Dev could sense Sonakshi's hesitation.

"And I've not forgotten about those bouquets, I try not thinking about it too much but these past few days when you were not there I couldn't help but think about all the things you told, the more I think the more scary it looks, it felt like someone would jump out of the shadows it's..... I don't know....you said the car accident.. m-my photo..." Sonakshi could not complete her sentences, it was too much for her, worries she tried to keep to herself were finally bursting out and she was hyperventilating.

"Hey Sona calm down... breath in for me" Dev held her in his embrace while guiding her to take deep breaths, it was hard to see his Sonakshi like this but it was only a natural reaction to the situation they have found themselves in. "Come with me"

He took her to the terrace, there was no one to interrupt them or spy on them, away from all the prying eyes, it was heaven, the rooftop garden, the fairy lights, the stars, them and the moon. It looked almost dreamy.

"It's beautiful" Sonakshi whispered looking around herself, she had calmed down and now felt stupid for suddenly hyperventilating but she did not have to, her feelings were valid, her worries were valid.

"Not more than you" Dev whispered back kissing her knuckles, making her blush. "It does feel like a dream but Sona it's not, I'm here, by your side, you're my reality now and those bouquets or accident are the past, this is the present you're here with me, safe, I'll protect you even before that shadow reaches you. It's scary I know but I'm here. I'm here right by your side. Do you trust me?"

"More than myself" Her eyes were shining with tears; they were tears of gratitude to whoever was there up above for bringing Dev in her life.

"I'll protect you" Dev whispered wiping the fallen tear away with one hand while the other rested on her waist, Sonakshi closed the distance between their faces this time and kissed him. It was slow kiss of love and thank you and the 'I trust you'.

"I want to take you to the cottage" Dev asked later when he told her about his grandparents' cottage and how it's his safe place. They moved from their earlier heart to heart to simple conversations as they talked about their childhood memories, their embarrassing moments, there college days, everything and anything. Their fingers were intertwined while his head rested on her lap and her other hand caressed his hairs.

" Really!?" Sonakshi was excited to hear it, Dev told her how he spent a significant amount of his childhood with his grandparents there making some of the most beautiful memories of his life so taking Sonakshi to his happy place was a given.

"Yes! You'll love it, let's go tomorrow." He said excitedly.

"No Dev not tomorrow you still need rest" Dev pouts like a kid who was denied his favourite candy making Sonakshi laugh, she couldn't believe people were scared of him when he acted like this but that's the thing, he didn't act like this, it was her who bought out that innocent side of him he lost somewhere. "Let's go next week haan?"

"Pakka?"

"Pakka you big baby" Sonakshi laughed some more when Dev glared at her for her endearment and thus started a tickle war, their laughs filling the starry night. They were happy and in love.

Next week arrived, Dev roamed around his room to get ready for his cottage date with Sonakshi, he couldn't wait to see her reaction of the place, if it was in his hands, he would take Sonakshi and settle there for forever away from all the problems. The house was abuzz with activities for the engagement preparation, everything was going too smoothly and with no contact from the threatener so far, Dev was even more suspicious of this radio silence, as he had learned the threatener always striked after silence, a life has been lost already in this affair, he couldn't afford to take him loosely or let his guard down. Dev's only respite from the plethora of things he had on his mind was Sonakshi, talking to her was the highlight of his day.

"I'll reach there in thirty minutes. You're ready?" Dev asked shouldering his phone while taking his car keys.

"Yup I'm but you'll have to wait at the house, Baba wants to talk to you about something." Sonakshi said on the other side.

"Oh..umm is your baba scary?"

"You've met him Dev."

"I've but that doesn't change the fact that you're his daughter, he seemed to liked me though so I guess that should not be a problem. Right?"

"Dev! We are literally getting engaged in three weeks, he is not gonna interrogate you. We are past that stage." Sonakshi's amusement was clear in her voice.

"yeah right! So what does he want to talk about then?"

"Come and find out you idiot" Sonakshi said laughing at his nervousness "See you"

"Bye love you."

When Dev finally reached Sonakshi's house he was not ready for the sight that greeted him, Sonakshi in a strangers embrace.
