To me, one of the most annoying things in a story is when the author doesn't use the quotation marks.
Stories are practically impossible to read properly without them. (Or at least, it makes it difficult and confusing to read).
When a character starts speaking, make sure to include (") before and after they finish their line of dialogue.
That way, it's much easier for the readers to understand what's going on.
