I'll keep it quick and simple:

STICK TO YOUR CHOSEN GENRE!

Not much to explain. Just stick to your chosen genre(s).
I have read stories (both original fiction and fan creations) where the author has suddenly 'switched genres' or thrown in a twist that does not accord with the story's original genre at all.

In most cases, this just doesn't really work... The sudden change is too off-putting, unexpected and disruptive of narrative flow.
Yes, there are some gems out there where a sudden switch work... But these are not in the majority.

Furthermore, I would suggest sticking to your original genre (unless you have a really good way of incorporating the change into the story without throwing off the audience).
