Chapter Twenty Four: Read Aloud

I stare at the paper on my desk, sighing quietly.

Pick one of the topics listed below and write about it in detail. Yours could be read aloud. This is 50pts and due on Monday. There is no word limit, it just has to be more than four sentences

Write about a happy memory

Write about a thunderstorm

Write about a singer

Write about pain

Write about love

Write about heartbreak

Write about home

Write about learning another language

Write about how you feel today

My page is written since it's Monday. It was given to us Friday.

I just want him to talk to me, but he won't.

So I'm taking my Dad's advice.

I'm forcing him to listen to me.

I'm copying what Kat did in 10 Things I Hate About You

People are still settling their things and my paper is upside down.

Everything is tucked into my backpack just in case I need a quick escape, and I decided that if this doesn't work, I'll force myself to move on from him.

I chance a glance at him and I'm relieved to see his headphones aren't in.

I wrote an email to Mr. Hendricks last night asking if I can be one of the people he picks and he agreed.

He was probably glad to have volunteers.

"Okay class, today your papers are due. Five of you will be selected to read your papers randomly. I have all of your names in this hat." He points to the hat.

"Is it extra credit to read the paper?" One kid in the back asks.

"No." He says. He pulls a name from the hat.

"Madison Jensen."

"I didn't do my paper." She says.

I hear him sigh.

"Alright.

He puts her slip of paper side and pulls out another one.

"Michael-"

"Didn't do it."

Mr. Hendricks sighs again.
"How many of you actually did the assignment?"

Me and six other kids raise their hands.

"Unbelievable." He mutters.

"Alright, uhh..." he looks around the room. "Gracelyn, you're up first."

I'm first?

No, no, no, no.

Confidence. You're a boss ass bitch.

I slightly regret my outfit today. I'm in tan leggings and a light pink loose long sleeve shirt, and my white Adidas. My hair is left down in it's natural waves.

I didn't feel like getting out of bed this morning.

I clear my throat and stand up. Danny is still on his phone but I hope to god he pays attention.
