Chapter Thirty Five: Baking and Cuddling

Danny

I sit on my bed, watching Kyle toss a tennis ball in the air and then catch it. He's on my bean bag looking pissed off.

"What's wrong with you?" I ask.

"Miley's pissed at me." he grumbles.

"Why?"

"I don't know. We've been dating for like four months, and apparently when you tell your girlfriends Mom she lied about her test grade, you're a horrible boyfriend."

I sit up.

"You told Miley's Mom she lied?"

"Yeah." he says. "It's in her best interest so her Mom will toughen up on her and make sure she does stuff."

"Dude, you're so stupid." I start laughing.

"You're telling me if Grace lied, you wouldn't tell her Dad?"

"I'm not dating her Dad, I'm dating Grace. You never snitch on the girlfriend. Ever."

"You and Grace have hardly been together a week."

"It doesn't matter. I know Grace better than you know Miley."

"You're probably right." He mutters. "How do you do it? That girl loves you dude."

"I know."

I hear whining and scratching at my bedroom door.

Kyle sits up.

"What the fuck is that?"

"Grace's puppy." I say, walking to the door.

I pull it open and the white and caramel fur ball comes running into the room.

"Why do you have Grace's dog?" Kyle asks.

"Because it's not Christmas yet." I frown.

"You got Grace a dog for Christmas?" He asks.

"Yes. What did you get Miley?"

He sits up.

"A ten dollar Ulta gift card."

"Dude." I cringe. "She's going to break up with you. You're treating her like your niece."

"I don't have a niece."

"Exactly."

My Mom comes sprinting into my bedroom suddenly, cussing up a storm. She grabs the puppy.

"Get rid of her, Daniel!" She hisses, and she takes off again.

What the hell is she talking about?

A few seconds later, my beautiful girlfriend walks into my bedroom.

"Oh." She hesitates when she sees Kyle. "I can come back..."

"You're fine." I say. I bought the puppy today and Scott and I spent two hours in pet smart. He just left about thirty minutes ago and Grace just got off work, with no idea we were even gone. "What's up?"

"I just um..." she scratches her nose. "Nothing, just call me later, okay?"

"You came over here for something." I say gently. "What is it?"

She bounces slightly on her feet.

"Well um...it's the twenty third and normally we make cookies today."
