Chapter Four: Behind the game
"Hey Naoi-kun, do you have an idea what was the enemy that attacked me last night?" She said, standing in the front of the team leader. Naoi felt uncomfortable at telling histories in the tent. He went outside by pushing the girl aside slightly to uncover his way. The bluish-haired man blinked in curiosity and turned his eyes on them.
"Ahem... What happened last night?" He just said, the black-haired girl just stared at them and waiting for them to speak. Naoi just sighed.
"Nothing important... This new fellow was just attacked by the strongest type of a monster." He turned to them and explained.
"A ghoul?! Good thing she didn't die!" Juuzou surprisingly said, her eyes widened.
"Of course she's not going to die because of me. Without me she's completely knocked out." Naoi said confidently and glanced back at the new ally with a grin. "Right?" He said. The girl just hung her head and nodded. The green-haired male turned back to Juuzou and Ayato with a calmed face.
"I'll just be getting some stuff, I'll be right back." He said and left the three in their company. Yuri was still standing, looking at the ground. Ayato then invited her to sit next to him as Juuzou just smirked at them.
"I'll be following our leader!" Juuzou said for an excuse to let Ayato and Yuri be alone for a while. The bluish-haired man was just silently making a fire while Yuri is watching him.
"Kirishima-san..." Yuri said with a down tone on her voice. Kirishima glanced at her in his eyes. "What is it?" He said, while making fire.
"What kind of life you have since you entered in this game?" She said seriously. Ayato stopped from what he's doing and put down the rocks for a while, he breathe to gain some strength.
"My life, you say?" he sighed deeply. "It was just like a humor..." At that words, Yuri already knew it was a kind of a heartbreaking story. She hugged her knees, she was prepared to listen.
"When I was a kid, I have a twin. We supposed to play games such as cards, snake and ladders and mostly hide-and-seek together with our friends, with Juuzou and Naoi. But..." His aura was changed as his fists are forming. Yuri felt him. She felt that the story will put her in frighten.
"She was killed at the age of 14. I don't know what or whom killed her, I just heard to my father that she's already dead... I can't accept that... That's not true...!" He said, his voice cracked as he hid his eyes with his palms. The girl's eyes widened.
"After that, I never talked to my friends anymore, and I just played by my own... I started playing some computer games and then... I actually don't know what happened... But... one day, I woke up in this world... It's funny isn't it? This is more like a nightmare!" His voice shaking as he hung his head and shut his eyes. He felt so uncomfortable, his fists started loosening. Yuri just patted his back as a comfort.
"I'm so sorry..." She just said. For the meantime, behind the forest, Naoi was watching them after all the time, and behind Naoi there is Juuzou who was hurting.
"Is this... how everything works now that you came...? But, you've been a fun friend, Yuri-chan." Juuzou whispered to herself. She positioned her hand on her chest, where she felt her heart hurting. She forced a smile and approached the man in front of her.
"Yo Ayato II, any problem?!" She asked, even she knew it won't do any good. The boy turned to her with a disappointed face.
"Would you stop calling me that way?!" He raised his voice for the reason the two look to them. "Ah, darn it! We're caught up!" Naoi whispered angrily, his palm on his face.
"It's not my fault anymore, you raised your voice." She whispered and crossed her arms. "But you're fucking annoying!" He said as the argument continues. Juuzou knew there will be an argument every time Naoi was talking to someone even if someone was illuminating that it was his fault. They noticed that Ayato and Yuri was already staring at them as they stopped arguing and stared back to them.
"What?" Naoi said in a deep voice. Kirishima glanced at the black-haired girl, while she was just avoiding his look. "S-Sorry if we disturbed your moment." She just said.
"Don't blame yourself, you didn't really disturbed us." Yuri comforted and scratched the back of her head.
"Enough of that, we discovered something new." Naoi just said and turned his back to them, signaling Ayato and Yuri to follow him. As they all walk together, not even one of them was making any noise, only footsteps can be heard in the silence of the forest. When they reached the village, with some humans walking around, Yuri was amazed at those people.
"We will call them the Normal people." Naoi said as they stood in the top of the hill while staring at the village. Ayato glanced at him.
"What is the difference of them and us?" He asked seriously, Naoi glanced at the skies, in the status bar; where the life/heart bar is which their lives is.
"We are four, yet there is 2 heart halves, 1 full hearted and the mysterious thing was, one of our member is no hearted." He just said while staring at the status bar on their sight. Yuri stared at it too. Of course, they're in the game, there must be your lives and your XP.
"Those people is not a player, if so, our lives should be as many as them. Just like on other games, there are citizens, who is not the main character of the game, and more like a victim." He explained, he continued walking down the hill as the rest followed him. "And the most important evidence that they were just normal people is..." He said as he approached one of the citizens.
"Hello, welcome to our Village!" greeted the citizen. Naoi glanced back to his allies. "They kept saying the same phrase." He just said. Ayato nodded approvingly.
"Good answer." He said. Yuri's head puzzled. "I don't get it! What do you mean they're also not a player? They're also alive..." She just said, she was wiggling.
"Ugh, they're not a player because they're not alive!" He raised his voice.
"Huh? What do you mean not alive? They're moving." She crossed her arms.
"They're not a real human who was stuck in this game, they were really made in the game, they don't have real lives, and they don't have story how they become stuck in this game because they were really made in the game. Get it?!" He shouted. Yuri giggled and nodded. "Got it!"
"Hey now, don't shout at her She's just new." Ayato said.
"Well, she's kind of pissing me off already." Naoi said and rolled his eyes. Yuri just sighed and hung her head.
"He didn't like me at all."
