Chapter Seventeen: The Powerful

"Let's all... meet soon..." The bluish-haired man said as he slowly vanished. Yuri felt so much anxious. She stared at the air. Naoi's fists slowly loosening as he stood up straight. He looked down to the girl with a forced cold smiled on his face. Yuri worriedly looked back to him. Her heart was trembling while staring at the unexpected reactions on his face.

"Let's rest for a while..." He said as he sat down on a rock and leaned his back against the wall. Yuri sat next to him, she looked at the boy; his eyes were shut, uncomfortably sleeping and resting. She began to shrink her body and faced the other side. She can't do anything. The atmosphere was really quiet. She didn't want her friends to be gone but, it was also good that they're gone in other way; that they may rest in peace.

In the midnight... Yuri started hearing a disturbing sound coming from outside which made her wake up. It was dark, she couldn't see anything.

"A-Ayato-san..." She said and tried searching for the leader. She searched for him using her hands, her hand searched everywhere but what she only have touched were the dusts. She started standing and getting out of the cave. She prepared for her weapon. The moon lights her way but still dark. She started walking slowly in the forest, frightened. She followed the noise she hear.

"Eh—?!" She exclaimed before getting startle about an unexpected action of someone; covering up her mouth and pulling the girl down to the grass. It was the leader, who has many damages around his body. She was now leaning her back on his lap, he was sitting on the grassy spot, leaning his back against a big trunk of a tree while his hands are covering the girl's lips.

"Keep your mouth shut, they're finding your scent!" She whispered to the girl. The girl was startled, her eyes widened while looking at the leader. She was worried. He slowly released her as they sat up properly. They were sneaking, waiting for the ghouls to pass the way. As the ghouls slowly passed by... Yuri was waiting for an action coming from the boy. But she received nothing. She started taking her sword out. Naoi noticed that.

"What are you—" Before the boy have finished, she already taken an action. She stood up from the bushes and prepared her weapon. The ghoul shifted its body to her. She started stabbing the ghoul through its heart spot before it could take an action. It was now killed. It made the boy just stare at the girl through her rapid actions.

"I can't just sit there silently..." The girl said. It hit the boy hard as he stood up. He tipped his cap and sighed deeply, releasing the embarrassment he feels.

"Let's go." Naoi said as if nothing special happened. They started heading back to their shelter. The girl started sitting back to her old position and slept. The leader stared at her for a while. He then walked and sat up next to her. He leaned his back against the wall as he looked down to the girl with a feeling of anxiety.

'Why am I so afraid to lose you? After all, we're all dead...' Naoi thought while looking at the girl. He started stroking her hair, he started smiling softly. He started facing back to the light outside coming from the big cell of the cave. His eyes were half closed. He was sleepy. He started closing his eyes and slept.

Naoi got up by an annoying sound coming outside the shelter. The sun was already out yet covered by the clouds. Naoi got up and surely it was the girl since she wasn't around the shelter. He then noticed some bandages covering around his body, where his wounds are in. He stood up and started walking outside to check the last ally left in the game. She was frying a fish on a stick in the big fire with one hand while the other was on her waist. He slowly approached the girl and watched her fry.

"What's that?" Naoi asked. Yuri jumped a little through the sudden appearance of the boy.

"Don't just suddenly pop out like that!" Yuri raised her voice as she slowly walked away to the team leader.

"Sorry, I didn't know you're going to get startled." Naoi said. Yuri just pouted jokingly and continued cooking the dish. After a while—

"It's Done!" Yuri raised her stick with the fish with a golden scales. She then started eating it while sitting on the grass. Naoi sat next to the girl and watched her eat.

"After you eat, we'll continue on fighting." He said. The magenta-haired girl glanced to the leader and blinked.

"You're not going to eat?" She asked and continued eating her meal. Naoi just shook his head and turn his eyes to the fire.

"We have to finish this fight." The leader sighed depressively. The girl nodded and she started eating quickly. As she finished her food, she then prepared for her weapons and got up together with the leader.

They walked silently to the pathway. Only their footsteps which can be heard. A sudden kagune came out of the bushes got pierced the leader through his chest.

"Ayato-kun—!" Yuri shouted. The ghoul slowly stood up and revealed itself in the bushes. It startled the girl from the sudden incident. The ghoul was lifting lifting the leader with its weapon or his kagune while Naoi kept getting himself out of the trap.

"Damn you...!" Yuri yelled out and started lifting up her weapon and prepared to slash it to the ghoul's body. The ghoul quickly dropped the boy and used its kagune for its weapon. It was an intense fight. Yuri have cut off the ghoul's arm where its kagune were, before finishing the ghoul. Its blood split everywhere. She quickly approached the man who was badly wounded.

"A-Ayato-kun! Are you alright?!" She worriedly said. The boy started to cough blood. She helped him move and lean his back on a large tree.

"I'm f-fine..." Naoi said. He placed his hand on the girl's shoulder and lifted his face, straightly looking at the girl with a warm smile. "Hey... you wanted to know my past life, right?" He asked. The girl started clenching her fists it made the boy tilt his head. What makes her feel like that?

"Yuri...?" The leader said, slowly removing his hand on her shoulder. She then suddenly grab him in his shirt.

"Why?! Why do you have to leave me?!" She cried out, tears are falling down to her face. It astonished the boy to her unexpected actions and reactions. "Why...? I don't get you..."

"Well, I don't get you more, after all I deserved to be in pain because... I've done much pain to others already... and mostly to you... I didn't accepted you at first, that's why you should be mad at me, right? But what makes you—" Naoi haven't finish as the girl slowly released the leader.

"Because... I already love you." She said. Naoi gasped a little as his chest hurtled.

"At the very first I met you... You approached me, it was the same as how it happened on my past..." Yuri said, slowly recalling her memories. Naoi's eyes widened.

"You're... remembering...?" Naoi asked. Yuri forced to smile, she wiped the tears streaming down her face but it keeps on flowing.

"I'm glad..." Naoi said, he closed his eyes and lean his back against the tree.

"A-Ayato...?" Yuri said, staring at his fading hands, his hands were see-through. Naoi glanced at his hands. It was slowly fading. He glanced back to the girl. She was surprised, her eyes widened while staring his hands, tears are still flowing.

"After all... the one who I thought was the weakest, was actually the strongest!"
