Lucy POV
Natsu and his cat, who's name was apparently Happy, had decided to accompany me to Magnolia since they were going there on their own anyway. And by accompany me I mean Natsu grabbed my hand and took off running through the town because the royal army showed up to take him down because of all the damage he'd caused fighting Salamander. We had run into a forest located just outside of town.
"U-um Natsu should we be walking in the forest like this?" I asked my voice shaking slightly.
"It's totally fine, you're safe with me and besides, it's a shortcut to Magnolia." He said looking over his shoulder at me. I bit my lip but nodded still feeling scared. I sped up a little so that I was basically against his back. We walked into a clearing and Natsu stopped suddenly causing me to bump into him.
"Wha-?!" He cut me off with a serious look before turning his head back to face the rest of the clearing.
"I know you're there! Come out while you still can!" He shouted. Laughter filled the clearing as bandits emerged from the trees in a semi-circle before us blades drawn.
"Would ya hear that boys? An unarmed boy is threatening us! What are you going to do boyyo? Cry to your mummy?" The man directly in front of us asked jeeringly. I subconsciously gripped the back of Natsu's shirt as I watched the scene unfold. The man who spoke charged at us sword out. Just as he started to run Natsu shoved me back far behind him and raised his arm to block the sword. I screamed as the weapon made contact, expecting blood to come pouring out of his arm but instead there was a deafening ring that filled the clearing followed by an eerie silence. I stared in shock and horror at the sight before me. Natsu was standing there clear as day, his coat was torn and on his arm right where the sword had made contact were a multitude of small, red, scales. His calm, serious expression changed into a grin as flames engulfed his body. On every bit of skin that the flames touched scales erupted forth to cover the exposed flesh. The only part of him that remained untouched even with the contact was his face other than the skin around his eyes. The bandits, and I myself, began to tremble in fear at his appearance. He let out a throaty rumbling laugh before asking,
"What's this, I thought you were going to try to rob us," he tilted his head down and his grin began to look more sinister "I hope you haven't gotten cold feet all of a sudden." With that they all attacked him at once in a mad, terror fueled frenzy. He dodged each of their attacks with ease before the flames were just around one fist and he shouted,
"Fire Dragon Iron Fist!" He threw a punch and sent them all flying. I just stood there and watched in morbid fascination as he sent tbe few remaining running off into the forest. When I finally regained my voice I tried to say,
"Y-y-y-you're a-a..." I trailed off fear closing my throat. He turned to look at me with lazy arrogance and held up a still scaly arm.
"That's right Blondie, I guess I should be properly introducing myself. Natsu Dragneel, the true Salamander and fire dragon, at you're service m'lady." He said with a mocking bow. My brain went into overdrive as I tried to process this new information. His scales melted into his skin as if they had never been there but I noticed his other more draconic traits: his strangely larger than normal canines, his slit pupils, the tremendous amount of body heat he gave off, why Happy had said that fire wouldn't work on him, and suddenly the events of yesterday when he had tried to take my scarf made complete sense. He'd hypnotized me, I'd always heard that it was dangerous to look into a dragon's eyes because they'd hypnotize you and eat you for their supper. Of course I knew now that half of that story was just an old wives tale but it would seem that the rest was true. He started to look me in the eyes and I gasped before screwing my eyes shut. I heard a muffled sigh and the faint crunching of grass as he approached me. I felt every muscle in my body tense as I felt the heat that his body produced directly in front of me.
"I-I won't look or listen to what you have to say dragon! I-I don't care what you do, it won't work!" I heard him chuckle and in the softest voice I'd heard him use up till then I heard him say,
"I really, truely doubt that Lucy." This caught me off guard but not even half as much as what came next. I felt two hands place themselves on my waist and it was like someone had set my blood on fire. Then before I could react I was being pulled forwards my eyes flying open and my hands shooting out in front of me to stop myself as I slammed into a hard chest. My eyes involuntarily flicked up and I realized that him and I were nose to nose and that my arms were pinned between our chests but before I could stop him his lips were against my own and in the moments when my eyes widened he had locked onto them with his own. He pulled out of the kiss and, not moving from our position he intoned,
"Don't fight it Lucy, it'll all be over in a moment." I struggled to keep myself present but found myself being sucked into the black voids that were his eyes.
"No..." I mumbled weakly as I felt myself losing our battle of wills.
"Just let yourself sleep, everything will be alright." He said this time a little more forcefully as his gaze seemed to intensify. ......no......I thought numbly before fading into darkness.
