Dying Inside:

Chapter 13:

Annaliese’s POV:

*6 Days until Concert*

I woke up not being able to breath that well. I adjusted the plugs in my nose and turned my oxygen up a little, giving a little relief to my lungs. My lungs haven’t been getting any better and it’s starting to scare me. I don’t want anything happening to me, I still have a life to live. At least I’m going to the doctor so I’ll know. I walked to my closet and pulled out a royal blue tank top, white jean shorts, and brown sandals. I took a shower and brushed my teeth and got dressed. I did my vest treatment before finishing up some homework I haven’t finished. “Mama, what time is my appointment?” I asked her. “10.” She said and I nodded. I leaned back against the couch as I played on my phone. When she finished breakfast, I got up and walked into the kitchen. My mama was leaning against the counter, drinking coffee as I fixed myself a breakfast burrito. I cut it in half before sitting at the breakfast bar. I started eating when I heard footsteps behind me. Carlee had on her school uniform-a white polo shirt, a khaki skirt, and black Mary Janes. McKenna was wearing a light pink cami dress with a skinny brown belt and brown ballet flats. “Don’t you look cute.” Mama smiled as she sat beside me. “Thanks.” She blushed and bit into her burrito. “Are you trying to look cute for Ryder?” I asked her and she blushed hard. “Awww, my baby girl has a boyfriend!” mama squealed as McKenna groaned. “It’s not that big of a deal.” She covered her face and I chuckled. “You have to invite him over.” She said and McKenna nodded. “He’s coming by today to help with a project.” She said. “What’s it about?” “Our photography club wants us to take pictures of different scenery like forests, ponds, people, and stuff like that.” I nodded. “Cool.” When we finished, Kenna and Carlee grabbed their bags and we left.

“You alright?” mama asked me as we sat in the room in the hospital. I nodded. When the nurse checked my breathing, I didn’t do as good as I usually do and it scared me. There are a lot of times when CF scares me like when I’m admitted into the hospital with high fevers and practically at the front door of death. I’ve had three times where I almost died but had an angel on my side to watch over me. I fingered the worn dogtag that was around my neck. It belonged to my father, Lt. Austin Gardner of the US Army. He was a great person winning the Purple Heart after he died for saving so many civilians and his fellow army men from dangerous situations. “Do you miss him?” mama asked and I nodded. “I wish he was here.” I sighed as the doctor walked in. “Hello Annaliese, how are you?” he asked. “I could be better.” I answered and he nodded, pursing his lips. “Makaylah told me that your breathing is starting to get worse.” He said and I nodded. “Lately it’s getting harder to breath. My nose plugs are put it but it’s harder for the air to go in and out.” He nodded and wrote things down. “Ms. Gardner, can I speak to you privately?” he asked my mom as she got up slowly and walked out the room with him. My heart started beating fast as I watched them leave. What the fuck is going on?, I asked myself. I nervously pulled out my phone and went on Twitter. I started a new tweet

@Anna-BananaGardner: at the doctors, i’m so scared #cantbreathwell

I posted it and saw a reply from curly top

@curlytop94: @Anna-BananaGardner everything ok babe?

My heart fluttered as I saw the word babe. Curly top always knows what to say-well type.

@Anna-BananaGardner: thanks for asking @curlytop94 I really don’t know and i’m so afraid

My mom and the doctor walked back in and I looked at them. Mama sniffed softly and wiped her eyes with a tissue. “What’s going on?” I asked her and she shook her head. I looked at my doctor and he looked at me sadly. “Am I OK?” I asked. “Anna, you need a lung transplant.”
