Beware of Prisoners ✔

The Third Phase of the exam is taking place at Trick Tower, a prison for long-long term prisoners. Due to Tonpa's actions, we’ve already suffered one loss. The next round is Gon against another opponent.

I leaned against the wall as I listened to the prisoner talk to Gon. He said that they were going to play a simple game. Apparently it doesn't acquire mental or physical activity. The prisoner took out two candles.

"The one whose candles goes out first is the loser." Gon's opponent said.

'This sounds like a trap...' Just when I thought this, the prisoner was holding a long and short candle.

"We have to choose one? This is a trap! Normally, you'd choose the long one, so he must have done something to the long one!" Leorio said.

"That would be the safe assumption. But it might be a trick, and he's actually tampered with the short one. When presented with a clearly uneven choice, people become suspicious and hesitate before deciding. What's worse, if you make the wrong choice, the resulting mental anguish would be much greater than if the problem had offered two fair options." Kurapika explained.

I looked at the prisoners eye and my eyes turned blue.

'This guy's...name is Sedokan and....this guy is a bomber. He actually has 4 candles behind him. What a filthy trick!'

"Hey, which one should I choose?" Gon asked us.

"The candle would still have been an oil-soaked one, no matter what you choose, Gon." I mumbled in a low voice.

"What do you mean that oil-soaked candle, (Y/n)?" Killua whispered to me and my eyes widen.

'What's wrong with me! Ever since I met these guys I've been thinking out loud without me noticing!' I fake smiled at Killua.

"Huh? Oh nothing~!" He eyed me as suspicious but shrugged and looked back to Gon.

Gon chose the long candle and we all pressed 'O' button on our stopwatches. Sedokan gave Gon the long candle and they both light them up. Suddenly, a gush of air burst out from the deep space around the platform.

"A strong wind is coming from below. That means we should watch our step...no time to relax, huh..." Leorio mumbled.

"If you don't pay attention, your candle will go out." Sedokan said to Gon.

"That's because you're planning to do something bad. Otherwise, your candle would go out first."

"I won't do anything. After all...I've already taken steps." Once he said those words, Gon's candle flame went crazy.

"He must have hidden gunpowder or some other highly flammable substance inside, to make the candle burn faster!" Said Kurapika.

Killua looked at me and i kept looking at Gon. 'Well… whoops.'

"At this rate, his candle will last for about 2 or 3 minutes." Killua said as he looked back at Gon.

"Don't worry. He already got this solved.” They looked at me and I pointed at brother who smiled. “Look." They all turned their attention towards Gon.
