"Ugh, cops," you muttered under your breath. You were on the phone with your boss Rafael Barba. You were his secretary, and today he had asked you to run down to the precinct to grab some paperwork he'd forgotten.

"What'd you say?" Rafael asked, confused.

"Oh, nothing," you replied, shaking your head. "Yeah I'll get on it."

You had dealt with cops plenty of time before, both professionally and personally, and you didn't like them. Most of them just didn't seem to care about the people they were supposed to protect and serve.

You huffed dramatically, grabbed your bag and stood up. Whatever. Might as well get it over quickly.

--

The elevator opened and revealed the bull pen. Cops were running all over the place and you tensed up. Now where the hell would the paperwork be? Crap. You decided to suck it up and walked up to the first cop you saw.

He was looking through papers as he stood at his desk, occasionally making a weird face or a grunt. He was actually pretty cute with his slicked back hair, but you knew better than to trust a cop.

"Um, excuse me. I work for Mr. Barba, and he wanted me to pick up some papers.." You said shyly. The man looked up, a surprised look etched on his face. It quickly transformed to a welcoming smile.

"Oh, yeah, he said you were coming. Come on, I think Liv's got them," he gestured and tossed the papers he was looking at on his desk. "I'm Sonny Carisi, by the way."

You offered your name and followed him as he weaved his way around the precinct, narrowly avoiding running into people and knocking into people's desks. Eventually he brought you to a hallway that was less crowded with a one way glass, and he knocked on it abruptly.

"She's interviewing some asshole." Carisi rolled his eyes and shifted around. You couldn't help but look in at the suspect. The woman across from him seemed to be smiling and laughing, and you felt disgusted. She should be beating his ass!

Typical cop, they were probably just going to let the dude go. The woman gestured something to the criminal and jogged over to the door. She popped her head out, an annoyed look on her face. "What is it?"

Carisi shrugged. "Sorry, didn't mean to interrupt. Where are those papers you were going to give Barba? Miss (y/n) is here to pick them up."

"Oh! Yeah, they're on my desk on the top. Nice to meet you, (y/n)." The woman nodded. "Sorry, gotta get back to this. I'm flirting and he's telling me everything."

You started to say thanks just as she ducked back in the interrogation room. At least she wasn't actually flirting with him.

"Liv, she's always busy with these weirdos," Carisi sighed. "But I guess you're used to that, working with Barba and all." He chuckled.

You nodded halfheartedly. "Yeah, it's crazy."

Carisi shot you an unreadable look. "Well.. Yeah. Let's go grab those papers." He led you back to Olivia's desk and grabbed the huge file, and passed it off to you.

You were relieved to finally have the paperwork so you could just leave, but something else distracted you. A woman, no, a girl, was sitting at the desk of an officer crying. You felt like you were going to throw up as memories started flooding back.

"Hey, you good?" Carisi asked, putting a hand on your elbow.

You blinked, shaken out of your thoughts. "I'm good, just thinking about how mad Barbas gonna be when he sees the size of this file." You tried to make a joke but by the look on his face, Carisi saw through it. That was another thing that you didn't like about cops, they always knew what you were really thinking.

"Well, I should get going, he said it was urgent," you said and shrugged awkwardly.

Carisi nodded and shoved his hands in his pockets. "How about I walk you out? I don't want you to get lost or anything."

You couldn't exactly say no, since he seemed to be so nice, so you accepted.

The both of you walked over to the elevator, but you stayed quiet because you just didn't know what to say.

"Uhh.. This weathers pretty crazy, huh?" Carisi joked awkwardly, and you gave him a funny look and started laughing.

The elevator dinged open and you both hopped in, Carisi allowing you to go first. You accidental brushed against him as you passed him and cringed internally. When you got in the elevator you made sure to stand away from him.

"Now I don't mean to be rude," He started as he stood next to you and hit the elevator button, "but isn't this the wrong line of work for you, if you don't like cops?"

Oh god, he knew. Looking down at the floor, you felt your face burning. "How could you tell?"

Carisi laughed. "It's sort of obvious. But don't feel bad or anything, I just thought it was funny since you work for the ADA and all."

You couldn't help but laugh too. It was sort of funny although you were mostly embarrassed. At least he was making jokes, that made it a little less agonizingly embarrassing.

"It's just, I haven't had a lot of good experiences with cops, no offense." You explained, carefully choosing your words.

Carisi tilted his head, a funny little smile on his face. "What, you a criminal?"

You glanced away from him. "No, but I got attacked by one." You weren't sure what made the words fall out, maybe you just needed someone to listen. Or maybe you hoped that at least one cop wasn't all bad.

"Oh Jesus, I'm sorry," Carisi went quiet, annoyed with himself, he wished he could have just known to shut his mouth.

"It's fine," you rolled your eyes. "But yeah, cops just freak me out."

The elevator door opened and you walked out. To your surprise Carisi followed you.

"Okay, this is going to sound... I don't know. But can I try to show you all cops aren't bad? Like.. Go get coffee or something? There's a place right across the street.." He asked, his face a bright red as he stuttered.

You studied him for a moment, he did seem genuinely nice. And the awkward, shy look on his face was really damn cute.

"Okay. I guess Barba will just have to wait for these files." You smiled and shoved them in your bag, giggling.
