Jade's POV

I let go of his hand and stared at the drink in front of me.

"If I wanted you to kill you I would have done it by now." Jax joked.

"Trust me I would kill you before you could even blink."

"Fine. I'll take the first sip to show you it's not poisoned."

He grabbed the drink and took a sip.

After he put it down he visibly swallowed on purpose.

"See. It's not poisoned." He said.

I grabbed the drink in my hand

I hesitated but drank it.

He smiled and began to sip his drink as well.

I opened my laptop and turned it back on.

"What are you doing on your laptop?" He asked.

"I'm just looking for a job."

"You don't have one?"

"If I did I wouldn't be looking for one."

He crossed his arms over his chest and pouted. "Rude."

I rolled my eyes. "I just moved here."

"Your last name sounds familiar to me."

"Holt?"

"Yeah. I swear I've heard people take about it."

"My dad's name is James Holt."

"Oh yeah. Didn't he lead a rescue team?"

I nodded. "He did but that was years ago."

"It must be an honor to have his name and be related to him."

"It was an honor before he led his rescue." I glared

"You got defensive."

I shook away the glare. "Yeah sorry. I get that way a lot."

"Why?"

"I just do."

"Sorry. But it still must be great."

"It is. I love him."

We stayed silent for a moment.

Our coffees were halfway gone.

"So what's up with your name?" I broke the silence.

"What do you mean?"

"I told you my last name but I don't know your last name."

"There's a reason."

"Are you--" I paused and my eyebrows furrowed

"What?" He asked. "Is there something on my face?"

"Actually yeah."

There was a red dot on his temple.

It was moving slightly but it did not leave his temple.

It looked like a flashlight.

He wiped his face with his hands.

"Did I get it?" He asked.

I didn't answer.

I looked out the window while trying to follow the source of the faint light.

It lead to a person on a roof across the street.

A sniper.

I looked back at Jax with wide eyes.

"What?" His eyebrows furrowed.
